Painted Wheels - Paint or Buy?

I'm looking at a Black Z. I'm interested in one of the following:

1) Painting the stock wheels

2) Painting other available S wheels, or

3) Buying black painted wheels.

If the stock wheels can be successfully painted, this seems like the most cost effective. If not, what would be the cost of painting the optional painted wheels, or buying black painted wheels? I know I can look up prices, but I'm looking for some experience from the membership. Thanks.

Tim

Make sure you purchase OEM Factory wheels if your NOT going paint or have your current Powder coated etc.

99% of the aftermarket Z06 styled wheels are made in China and , IMHO, are nowhere close to the Factory in terms of structural quality. I would not consider doing any high speed or even low speed outings unless I knew I had at least Factory OEM quality, if not better like a 3 peice forged product.

Best of luck!

Painting your factory wheels is the easiest & cheapest way to go. I just had the tire's broke down off the wheel bead & had a local guy do the paint for 200.00. Aired the tire's back up & away I went.

I did a set of powder coated wheels for a Long time good friend and member here a few months ago, ChiTownZ06!

They wanted like 950 dollars or some crazy number like that, local to him.

He shipped me his wheels and I had them Powder Coated Black Chrome for $500 dollars including the barrels. Black chrome is a 2 stage process. My powder coater only charges $250 for Black powder coating including the barrels. Doing the barrels makes it very easy to clean the entire wheel. It only cost ChiTown a total of $150 total for shipping me his wheels , round trip using my FEDEX account, ground.

My Coater only does counter business.
