Radio reception problem

Just put in a new pioneer set up with all the bells and whistles. We have run into a problem with the FM reception on the radio. Did the easy stuff first, swapped out 2 other new radios, installed a booster antenna and still no great reception. Thank god for IPOD and XM radio but would like to get my local traffic reports.

Has anyone encountered this in the past, resolution??

I was told that the C5 and early C6's had radio reception problems but I have not found out what the solution was. Even the original Bose radio has issues getting my local stations but it was much better than the current reception.

Thanks Ernie

Re: Radio reception problem

HI there,
A few questions.
First, the lack of reception is what? You are hearing static? Reception fades in and out? You hear the spark plugs firing ?
There are a few different things that can be done for reception issues, based on your symptoms.

Re: Radio reception problem

Ernie,
I have a 2006 and have reception problems with the AM radio. It comes and goes, one station will screech, the next one fine. When I took it in for the first oil change they agreed there was a problem, but said they couldn't find anything in their data base telling them how to fix it. It wasn't bad enough to insist on a new radio, so I just let is slide.

The auto tune feature will tune in only the strongest local stations and once while I am stopped with the car on run, (not ACC). When I'm driving even they have a hard time coming in. The rest of the stations that should come in are static and some just blank, open air.

There is some spark plug noise but it's very faint. I keep hearing about noise on the power but haven't recived a PM or response on what the actual problems could be.

Thanks

Re: Radio reception problem

Hi there,
You have 2 antenna diversity modules in your vehicle.
If both FM and AM are giving you problems, the first course of action is to double check the ground for each module.
If its AM, I would be concentrating on the LEFT side diversity module and associated antenna.
If its FM, it could be either.
Antenna coaxial cables sometimes could be pinched or broken.
I have seen a few personally where the terminal tension INTO the modules is not the best, creating concerns.
