I read the article in the magazine. It killed me that they ranked it #3. With this being said...it should have been #1.
On paper, the Z06 Corvette is the best car here. It accelerates as quickly as the 911 Turbo through the quarter and wastes both the Porsche and Ferrari at speeds above 120 mph. How about 0 to 150 mph in 17.7 seconds? That’s up there in Ford GT territory, if not as stupid fast as a McLaren F1. The Z06 has the most grip at 1.01 g and the best braking performance. On an autobahn, it was still accelerating while the Ferrari was topped out in sixth gear at 186 mph. Around our road course, it was an easy victor, 1.7 seconds quicker than the Porsche on a near-76-second lap. It does all this for about a third of the Ferrari’s price. The Z06 is the best performance value in the world, period.

It's amazing when they consider some of the things on a Corvette, it can be the smallest of things but they weight it very high. When there is a problem with a $250,000 Ferrari or equivalent, it is weighted very low. Bottom line is, all the editors seek exclusivity. If they would have created a new line and called it something exotic sounding and then sold the C6Z under that name and priced it at $200,000, it would have been number one in a heart beat. Pun intended.

I love these magazines, they say the Z06 on paper does everything faster and better. Yet they gripe about brake feel and steering feel, and a shifter that takes more effort. Not to mention a 1.7 second faster lap time than the Porsche which is huge. But they just can't bring themself to say the car is better than the Porsche and Ferrari.
I own a 02 996 Turbo, and a 02 Z06 and even though they are the last generation of the two. I think the Z has better brakes and better steering feel on the track and it easier to drive at the limit.
I would agree on the interior quilty of the Porsche and Ferrari, and exterior design as being better. But for what it costs to own a 997 Turbo or the Ferrari, the Z06 is a better car.

Agree Its the same old thing everytime, maybe if the vette was built in germany or italy it would get a good review, then the vettes interior needs 5k more put into it for them to say a good thing, once thats done they will bash the attempts, and compaired to a porsche interior I dont think its really any better than the vettes
As I've said before, consider the source. C&D hates American cars. Period. The Ferrari is sweet, of course, but I wouldn't have a Porsche if you gave it to me (one of the ugliest cars on the planet IMO).
Every single negative was a subjective opinion or judgement. Every single plus was based on qualitatively supported data.
Deduction: the testers had their thumbs firmly planted where the sun does not shine.
I agree with you Bill, and I would like to add that the editors of most car magazines suffer from a severe case of rectal-cranial inversion and they all need glass belly buttons so they can see where they are going!
The Z06 is a better all around car period, regardless of price!
