Except this is like even a non-dragrace fan gearhead asking "Who's Don Garlits...?"...

Some things are just known by gear heads - passed down genetically from father to son...

Think of Ron as one of the reasons the C5-R (and now the C6-R) has dominated the world.

That is very cool. I met Ron at Sonoma in 2005 and learned that in addition to being an excellent driver he is also a really super person. Ron, Johnny O'Connell, Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, Steve Wesolowski and Dave Hill signed my fuel rail covers and the inside of the hood. Ron and Johnny also signed my license plate, which is ALMSGT1. I was thrilled.

A bit more info from Ron.

Ron mentioned that the C6-R is about 600 lbs lighter than our C6z and instead of 505HP it is 600HP.

He also mentioned that the C6-R changed from GoodYear and put on Michelin tires and shaved 3 seconds withOUT any tuning. The team was surprised. With tuning they shaved another 1.4 sec. overall. The reason that the C6Z06 does NOT have Michelin tires is that Dave Hill would NOT allow a spare tire on the car. Michelins did NOT have RUNFLATS as Goodyear does.

Ron is a great guy with lots of stories. He also is praising Tom Wallace. Ron said Dave Hill hand-picked Tom as his replacement!

-Bill.

We tried to offer him some TIM HORTON Donuts. But, he declined due to weight restrictions. The guy is like a matchstick.Tall and straight.

Zippy,

He actually lives in Brampton, just north of Toronto. About 15 minutes from my home in Mississauga.

I must also say, wowow this c6z is so different. What a car. I'm having a great time. Now I understand.
-Bill.

Ron is not only a great driver but he's a really great guy who really appreciates his fans. He and Johnny "O" are really writing Corvette history!

After his overall victory at the 2001 Rolex 24 Hr race I sent him a photo of me in front of the '02 car before the race (at the address on his web site) he sent the photo back with a few other GM promo photos of the C5-R!

That was the race Dale Sr & Jr co drove the 03 Vette
