Short throw shifter? Any opinions?

Looking into the short throw shifter from Breathless Performance... my GM dealer sells/installs it locally...

Anyone have this or a similar shifter?

Re: Short throw shifter? Any opinions?

I had the breathless on my C5Z and really liked it. Very adjustable to your needs. I don't k now what spring is in them now but I left the one in there that was on it. Great for drag racing but too much for everyday. Especially some Miami traffic! It comes w/ two other sets of springs softer and harder the medium is in there. I would recommend the soft for a daily driver. I did'nt want to take it apart again and always got annoyed w/ it. Other than that it was great and good quality. You know they are just down in Broward off of I95 around Griffen Rd in Hollywood. Actually I would just put the soft spring on the right side which was always a pain getting into reverse and 5th.

I've tried it, as you'll see in my sig. I wouldn't try that shifter ever again, but if someone had it, I would recommend they use the soft springs.

It broke in two? My handle broke also and I couldn't see because of the shift boot that it was actually one of the two bolts that hold the handle to the shifter. When the one bolt broke it just flopped back and forth. Went and got a grade 8 and all was well.Springs were tough though never tried the soft mabey that would have made me love it.

Yeah, it was in two pieces. I actually still have it in a box somewhere. The first thing that broke was the bolt, like you said. I replaced the bolt and a few months later, *snap*... the shaft broke in two.

I'm not the only person who had it break on them. It's too bad because I liked the shifter when I first got it. I'm much happier with my C6 Z shifter, though.

Hey man... I'm in Palm Beach Gardens... Ive been to BPP... they did my intake / ported TB, tune / drop... (485 RWHP) I'm going back there for their step headers, x-pipe & exhaust. They do good work. I'm expecting around 525RWHP... what do ya think?

Re: Short throw shifter? Any opinions?

I had virtually every aftermarket shifter made in my C5 Z (including Breathless, Hurst & B&M) but quite frankly I like the OEM shifter in my C6 Z the best. However, if I were a hardcore drag racer I'd have to say the Hurst shifter would be at or near the top. The Callaway, Mallett and MGW would also be worth considering.

In the end it depends on what ones intentions are, as no shifter is optimal for all types of driving. Most of the aftermarket shifters, in my opinion, are better suited for drag racing.

You'll also be hard pressed to find an aftermarket shifter as quiet as the (updated) stock unit.

I'm by PGA all the time. I've been on the look out for ya, I'll remember the rims. No siting yet..LOL. As far as you mods from what I've been told w/ the C6Z you won't see much of a change w/ the exhaust. Mabey 5 hp. The c6z has a very good flowing exhaust unlike the c5z. The mods you mentioned would get big gains w/ a tune in a c5z but not the c6z. Exhaust mods in the c6z are really for the better sound you can get. A tune will bring you some gains just make sure you can reverse it because I wouldn't want to give up that 5/100,000 just yet, you paid for it!! I personally would do the BB mufflers you spoke of but would pass on the headers and X pipe. The summer is coming and stock these babies throw alot of heat. Search some of the threads w/ guys who did headers on the c6z and the heat issues thereafter. That's why I wouldn't consider it. The gain isn't there. As it is I'm doing the tunnel plate and insulating the interior and I'm stock. Good luck. Let me know if you doing any local shows or events I'll make my way over for a hello. Jim

I like the c6z shifter also, have'nt been compelled to swap it just yet. The c5z was terrible, there was no choice but to change it.

Re: Short throw shifter? Any opinions?

Cool, thanks for your opinions... I think I'm going to stick with the stock... I wanted shorter, but I love how smooth it is... I don't want it to be harder to shift...
