Re: So, what was the conclusion on the GTR v. Z06

I was looking at the gtr found 1 for 79k new in sioux falls south dakota. But I have been on the 350 forum for 3 yrs and have owned a s/c 350 . The gtr gets boring from what bluebatmobile said . No fun and went back to his viper. With me it was i gould get a 2007 zo6 with 7k miles that was never owned , it was a GM event car for 53k and for 1k more the dealer put the killer bee intake and dyno tune on it with a in writing the warranty will not be void letter signed with ph# and all. Guess what I went with? and loving it so far . The only gripe is the slack in the drive traine. other than that love my vette all 480 whp of it.

I heard these rumors and actually priced a replacement GT-R gearbox from the dealer and it was actually "only" $14,000

If I wanted to get a car that I needed to replace the automatic tranny on, I'd get a Tahoe....Oh wait, I have one already.

Re: So, what was the conclusion on the GTR v. Z06

This is probably the only comparison that matters:

YouTube - ZR1 Drag Race King - Spanks GTR, 599, and GT2

Look how fast that GTR moves with the launch control relative to the other cars. Of course, it falls way behind at the top end, but all it would take on the drag strip is tire spin or a missed gear to get beat by one in a Z06.

Maybe to a dragger...A Z06 should be with a GT2 with same tires, so you're right, a Z06 would be right there with those cars.

At some point you have to ask if it's more fun to drive a car or have it drive you.

I also think it's funny that C and D can't decide whether the Z06 is a great car or a POS, an easy car to drive fast or a dangerous beast. I was reading the 07 comparo with the exige s and gt3 and the Z there was perfect...Then in 08 and 09 it's like a Pinto...I wonder if it's the individual cars, drivers, tires, allignments, etc..I must say, my 08 seems more like a c and d 07.
The latest 09 vette comparo misses the mark as well. If you are going to track your car you want a Z06 because with a few G's you can make the car just what you want. Not many will track the ZR1, and for 30K of mods, you could beat one on the track with a Z06. A Z51 is a great car and deal, but you cannot make up for the difference of the Z06 additions, especially the frame, wt, displacement, that easily. I think the Z06 was the right choice for me for tracking, I have no regrets. I also totally disagree with the suggestion that the ZR1 buyer is never going to consider a Porsche and visa versa. For 100+K, I want the best car I can get, regardless of badge. (same with 68K!).

I have to agree, if the guy buying the car is a performance car guy he would not care about the badge. A Porsche guy who buys a Porsche only because is a Porsche is not a true car guy most likely a poser. I had always wanted a Porsche for the performance until the Z06 came out (in fact I was at one time die hard anti-corvette), but the car has better than Turbo performance for regular 911 price (or less) and the service and maintenance is a Chevy. I am a performance car fan, regardless of the badge. I had considered at a Turbo and GTR, but I chose the Z06 because of the performance and I was just plain disappointed in the GTR on the weight and looks department ( I still think it's just awful looking), the Porsche was twice the price with less performance and there's nothing wrong with an extra 75- 80 k in my pocket.

GT2, Z06, ZR1, GT-R

All these are great cars. I wouldn't have a problem owning any one of them. Suppose you had the means to have all of them (not necessarily at once). That's when you get in and enjoy the beast... regardless of which one it is.
