It is all about how "stock" the new CTS-v race car is. The general consensus is that it isn't stock at all. There is much speculation until page two where a user named "Louis" chimes in. Here is an excerpt from this post:

You guys speculate and assume WAY too much.
It has a Hewland ST dogbox, exactly what the C5Rs ran in their early life. Strait cut, and clutchless. Its not sequential by anymeans.
Is it block mounted? Not anywhere near it. It has a 7" spacer just like a trans am car, and they will STILL be allowed to run the spacer when they go to the T56!
The engine is set back MORE than 8 inches, more like 12, and lowered ~ 4.
The engine is not a C5R, its more. Its the new pre-production LS7. The LS7 is a 7 liter, but SCCA would not allow it. They then reduced the stroke to 3.2, with the 4.150 bore, giving them a 358.
It does have a 90 mm TB, with an 80mm restrictor. They did that before they hit the first race! Think of what they would have done with out it!
Rev limiter is 7900. Scca added that when they added the restrictors. They WERE turning over 8 Nice for a production car eh?
Personally, I believe this guy is legit. If you look at some of the other posts in the thread and knowing the creds of these dudes. What do you guys think?

yeah, but that wasn't really the point. The point is the engine in the CTS-V is an LS7 block made smaller from the original 7 liters. So I mean he is pretty much saying the LS7 will be a 7 liter motor. Also, he races a Z06 in the same series so he probably knows what he is talking about.
More info. On that same thread look at one of the last posts:

Yes, the new LS7 will be a 7 liter. I've heard from several rod suppliers it will also use a titanium connecting rod. Torque plates will be used in production since GM saw so much bore distortion when trying to run without them. The piston is a radical departure from the normal GM piston design. It's using Mahle's new echoform design to save weight and friction.
I don't work for GM, but it's amazing how hard it is to keep a secret in this town.
The LS7 is the same as a C5R block as far as bore goes but at this time has a 3.622 crank making it close to 6.4 liters.
It is very possible that the CTSV has a 4.150 bore but that is stretching it pretty thin for a production car. Putting a 3.27 crank (the same size that is used in a 5.3 truck engine) will definatly get the rpms up.
You do remember the 302? A 327 (4" bore) with a 283 Crank?
What an engine.
That was in the Z28, wasn't it? A high revving engine built for the Trans Am series IIRC.
X
Came just under the 5 liter mark to make the series.
5 bolt main also to handle the high rpms.
When they were sold to the public in 1967 there were no Z28 markings on the car.
Many a 396 BB were surprised coming up against one.
