Test Drove '05 C6: Impressions

Well I stopped by a local corvette dealership to take a look at their black C6 coupe with the z51 package on it. They wanted 46000 for the car and it had 7400 miles on it. I didn't think that was too bad but I really want a blue one. The dealer drove out the lot with it with me in the passenger side and the top was off as well. Stopped in a parking lot to switch drivers. Keep in mind this is the only car I have driven that is RWD and 400hp 6-speed other than a friends BPU Supra 6-speed.

The clutch felt really good and felt easy to drive as I started to pull out the lot. My friend in a GTO was behind me messin around and taking a look at the car from behind. My friends had never seen me behind a fast car before only in my new beetle. I casually drove it around the corners and liked the mirror views for some reason. Wasn't really bumpy either like my beetle with coilovers. Took a turn on an open road with no traffic on it and I then accelerated as I was told to test the power of the car. So I punched it a bit and shifted and the power was very satisfying. People did turn their heads looking at the car as it drove by. My adrenaline was pumping hardcore. So I accelerated a little bit with no traffic nearby whatsoever and then slowed down to normal driving. The car definitely felt very very good. The heads up digital display was also really cool but felt somewhat distracting to me. I couldn't get use to it in the 15 minutes I had with the car.

Took it back in on the lot and walked out as they had to park it back into the showroom. I was very pleased with the car. Didn't really get to go crazy with it but I don't think would since I haven't driven very many fast cars. Discussed payments and all that but it was just a little too much for me at the moment. I decided to save more money and wait till I was permanent at my job rather than temporary like I am now to purchase the car. I could purchase the car now if I really wanted to but I couldn't get the idea of me being let go of my job and having a 487 dollar payment on my butt.

I loved the car and am looking to get one perhaps next year some time but until then I have to save and set myself financially.

I wonder will they ever have a Fixed roof on these?

I don't know how it was equiped exactly but that sound really high $ to me for a coupe. Do you know what the original MSRP was?

My car is still for sale at the dealership and I KNOW they can sell it for less than that. PM me if you are interested. Of course it was meticulously maintained as I care for all of my cars.

Btw, You'll love that car. It's awesome.

Also. I have pics of this car being built as I watched it go down the assembly line. I also have order papers, pedigree, window stickers etc. If you end up getting it, I'll give these items to you.

I don't know how much the original MSRP was for the car. I didn't think to ask I think I was too excited and clouded my mind of every single question I wanted to ask. Again i'm temporary at my job so i'd like to wait it out and save more money to get those payments lower. Plus in January will be my last payment on my new beetle so my credit will look a bit better afterwords I believe.

Thanks for the offer performin norman. The LeMans blue is definitely the color I would get with this car. Interior doesn't matter to me really but would like black interior. She looks gorgeous up there.

Again will there ever be a fixed roof yall think?

Also in the time i'd wait the prices will go down a bit so I think that will help me out considerably. I might shoot for sometime in the middle of next year. By then with 25-30k for a downpayment i'd probably want a z06. But I know that would probably kill me.

Well, they actually do make a FRC. The new Z is but it still has a sloping back window.

I don't think they'll bring back the notch look. I took a major hit on my 05 but I knew I would at the time I purchased it. Just a small price to pay for the countless miles of smiles it gave to me.

Will the handling matter that much with a fixed roof rather than the removable top version?

yes of course it will handle better. It's common sense.

Besides, after reading your posts, how old are you? The reason I ask is because you sound like a sh1t for brains 19yo that still lives at home with mommy and daddy and just got a job doing customer service making 14 buck an hour.

Where did you get 487 a month from? A 50k car will have a MUCH higher payment than that...unless you used all your lunch money for the passed 18 years as a down payment.

Yes I knew that it would handle better but I didn't know whether or not it was an amazing difference between the two. Yes I do have common sense. As far as all of the other information i'm a bit older than what you had asked. Also the rest is none of your business thank you very much. I'm not even going to get started on a pathetic attempt at a flame.

Thanks for the support guys.

Well, if you buy the car PLEASE spend a few $$ on intake/exhaust and the LS2 edit - - - it will make it a different car: honest.

Also, if a 6 speed take the clutch spring the pedal so you get a real clutch feel....

My advice and five bucks gets a bad lunch at McD's but it's better than starving..

The removable top shouldn't be a major handling issue with a Z51 C6.The car doesn't have the handling of a Z06(nor the power),but is enough car for most people on the street, and can be improved considerably with a few mods. The choice depends on what you're going to do with the car,and of course,on how much you can/want to spend.Performance-wise,a clean,low-mileage C5Z06 is perhaps a better buy(quicker and better handling than the Z51 C6,for a good bit less money). The C6Z06 is another animal entirely-great handling and power, but expensive and a bit of a handful for anyone without some significant experience in 400+hp cars.Hope this helps.
