I received my c6 z06 about 1 month ago. I sold my f355 in order to do this and have a 993gt2 for special occasions. The z06 is phenomenal in every respect. I still find it strange how usueable a car it is considering that it is as fast a 430 and gallardo, which have no real storage space. The fact that they are over twice the price adds to my enjoyment somewhat. Being located in Monaco is an extra perk, as I seem to be driving the only z06 in town. the streets are littered with ferraris.
Anyhow.. that is of minor importance.. I had a simple question though. How accurate is the speedo on the z06? I recently got it up to 321km/h which is 199mph (i think i let go a little earlier, so could be more). This is above the advertised speed, I therefore wondered what correction had been set on the speedo 2%, 3%, 4%?? anybody?
Holy crap!! You got it up to 199 mph?!? Awesome! Great first post.
(sorry, no idea about the degree of error in the speedo, but welcome to the forum)

thats what i thought.. my nuckles were going white, i was sweating a little.. I looked at the green numbers 321kmh!! completely flat, didn't look windy (difficult to tell though ). was all a little unreal.. thats why i want to know how fast I was ACTUALLY going!
does it really matter? On the bigger scope of things, probably not. But having grown up reading car magazines the number 200mph has somehow managed to leave its mark on my brain. So 6 in the morning, three lanes, not a car insight for a few miles.. the fastest car I have owned.. I had to a least try, right?
I don't have a clue how accurate the C6 Z06 speedometer is, but we tested several C5 Z06s speedometers using GPS and the stopwatch vs. distance method and found they were VERY accurate up to our 170mph-testing limit. None were off more than the width of the speedometer needle.

you need GPS. i use a garmin GPS it tracks up to 11 satellites. the analogue speedo and my HUD in my vette were innacurately reading 172 mph. the GPS accurately read 176 mph. the speedo in my viper was innacurately reading 200 mph. the GPS told the truth it was 198 mph. my runs were made on a flat road with no downhill or tailwind. a downhill run or a tailwind will add a few mph to your speed.
Congratulations on the C6Z and welcome to
I would defer to Fast Freddy on assuring the speed ... but it's been reported that C6Z speedo's are quite accurate. You know, there's a requirement that all members or new cars must show up in pics
Please ... take a pic in front of the Casino ... (showing my age now), I caught the GP of Monaco in '65 & '67 and fell in lust for a silver Ferrari 275 GTB/4 parked in front of the Casino in '67. They could be had then for under $20k US ...
Do us proud there! ... and if you're ever up north, GR8 White will surely be pleased to see you
BTW ... don't know if it's changed in 41 years, but we left Monaco (in a 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet) and headed north toward Switzerland ... there's a road close to the Fr/It border that goes up the mountain with somewhere between 11 and 18 hairpins going up. We stopped on top and could see the whole series below us ... worth a trip if you can find it

thank you all for such a great welcome! True American hospitality.
answers to the few questions: was it stable? I don't know how stable anything is at that speed. At these speeds you are meant to lean backwards and takeoff.
What I did notice though is that the slight jittering of the back end when cornering at high speed and going over a rough patch, which initially concerned me, is nothing to worry about. Sit tight and the car does hold even though everything is telling you the opposite.
camera? funnily enough i tried again to get up to 200mph a few miles down the road while holding my camera phone in one hand. can't be done! all i have is a blurry picture of 298 and soiled trousers.
re the road between france and Italy. I have lived between Geneva and Monaco for a while so I know most of these roads well. In fact I was on the san bernadino pass in the z06 only yesterday. Motoring heaven.
I will of course post a picture ASAP it might not be in front of the casino though. There is usually a horde of tourists taking pictures as I drive past. If I get out and park it, join them and start taking pictures I will look like too much of a muppet. Monaco is a small place I have reputation to keep!
