Hey -- I'm having the same problem with my Z after doing headers and a cam. I am putting the Elite 1/4 ceramic tunnel plate in Friday in hopes that the heat will subside. Right now it gets so hot that the metal bracket on the dside under the console becomes too hot to touch!
What headers are you running?
The only thing that you haven't done yet is koolmat blanket.
Not very encouraging for my predicament I am afraid.

KOOKS, the combination of all 3 things seems to be working, only other thing is to use header wrap on the pipes running through the tunnel... next step if needed,i have wrap and straps on hand if needed..good luck, EJ
btw...i have removed the whole interior and put in heat/sound barrier also....

EJ -- I have Kooks with cats and am also dying from the heat of these headers! Have you noticed if the d-side is hotter then the pax?
Did the ceramic tunnel plate help at all?
You should check out the Koolmat. I am looking at getting some thermo-tec adhesive tape to line around the cats -- can you recommend a place to get it? Is it a HomeDepot product, or is there a vendor of choice (feel free to pm me)?

ok buddy look at these places..i have dropped my console temp by at least 30 degrees.(estimate i need a instant read thermometer) sotp feel...
for 1/4 coated tunnel plate with thermo abs.
for pre-cut under carpet insulation kit
summit racing for the thermo-tec adhesive backed heat barrier..
look at pics i removed stock tunnel plate then drilled out rivits from heat shields near cats then coated the whole area, even above the cats with the stick on heat shield..then replaced the aluminum heat shield.. even down the sides of the tunnel to the botom of the body.. REALLY making a difference..i live in south louisiana...hot as hell and humid.. standing by,,EJ

You have certainly taken a multi~level approach to the tunnel heat! I have the ceramic tunnel plate and it still gets heat soaked. (I guess it should since aluminum is an excellent heat conductor!) I have an infrared non contact thermometer and the top gets 125F, the sides get 121-122F and the compartment floor gets 149F! The key hole gets over 175F!
The Z has to use a plate that is no thicker than .250"
The stocker is about this thick...

I am planning on replicating everything EJ did, save for the carpet insulation kit, this Friday. Once the tunnelplate and heat insulation are in, I will report back as to my findings. Right now it gets crazy hot with these high-flow cats and I would recommend to anyone who gets headers and keeps the cats to do these mods -- you will need it!
i have full insulation kit under carpet, 1/4 ceramic coated plate and thermo abs/ and adhesive backed heat barrier.....these working in conjunction were doing very well keeping console temp around 90..but im retired now and got to thinking about it so i went and picked up some wrap and did it this a.m. took a ride (97 degree day) for an hour and did not see much of a change on laser thermo. however the car is NOTICABLY more confortable.with the things i have done in place. if i dont see an improvement in the next few days im going to pull off the wrap,im concerned about moisture in the long run..planning a 2 month trip out west starting the last of October. You popped my ballon. I added 1/4" ceramic plate and have been sitting around trying to figure out where to go next. Yes the ceramic plate helped but didn't get it close to being a real solution. I had more or less decided to try the header wrap next but now I'm not so sure after reading the above.
All I can contribute here is that the shifter rubber boot seems to be a source of heat as the passenger side doesn't get near as warm. I am going to try sme insullation under the shifter boot to see if that makes any difference.
Also the stock exhaust and cats are just as hot as the LT header cars.
When is Chevrolet going to solve this common problem, yiou won't find this in a Caddy?

Warp -- take a look at the thermo-tec adhesive tape, this could really solve your problems. You can get it from Jegs, Summits, etc at about $70 shipped. If you look at EJ's pictures you can see that he basically lined the exhaust tunnel with this stuff, thus adding another layer of insulation to keep the heat out. This should be fairly easy to install as it is basically a stick on insulation.
I'm hoping that the thermo-tec and the ceramic tunnelplate will keep the heat out.

The plate used should be stainless steel and not aluminum.
How many of you guys have a stainless steel plate? Is it true that the heat felt inside is the same whether you have the stock exhaust or LTs?
