Thats a good question ive been wondering the same myself, i certainly hope not. In my opionion the coupe's rear glass doesnt look very good. The FRC style definitely looks better

I agree

When I first saw the FRC body I thought it was ugly compared to the coupe. It's funny how your opinion changes after owning one. Now it's the other way around.
I would hope there is some sort of distinction between the two.

I agree 100%.
I was a little worried that the FRC would not be capable of carrying two golf bags, and am pleasantly surprised that it does. I do like the T-tops however.
I would think that the C6 Z06 will be based on the current 'coupe' body style. Remember that the (2001) Z06 was introduced to breath new life into a 3rd 'fixed roof' bodystyle that clearly wasn't selling. It would've made no sense for GM to (re) create the Z06 based on the coupe, as they'd already spent millions on tooling for the FRC design. They had to do something to salvage what would've been a tremendous loss. Luckily for all of us, the Z06 was re-born! The odds are that they won't create a 3rd 'FRC' bodystyle for the C6 Z06 IMHO.
The FRC body style is much lighter due to the smaller rear glass, which is heavier than the fiberglass in our trunk. In order to make the Z06 lighter, this would be one way to save weight.
We'll see.
I too much prefer the FRC style to the coupe and hope it lives on in the C6 Z06.
It never occurred to me they might mess with a beautiful car (til I saw the C6). The aero aspect would be the obvious gain, of course, and the production costs might be lower. I'm afraid the weight issue might be solvable. At this point, I wouldn't even rule out a split-window coupe, i.e., fixed (no hatchback) and with minimal glass or lexan.
I think that the coupe big fastback glass is better for ultimate top speed, notice the C5-R. So I would guess it will be a modified big glass design without the targa part. Just solid like a current Z06 so that is where the stiffness will come from. I think they will modify the hatchback part of it to save weight and again, gain stiffness.
Bottom line, no potential Z06 buyer will turn down a coupe style back, the 500hp will be to tempting.
