Z06 2nd in big 0-100-0 test (apparently)

Boy am I looking forward to this... I'm in touch with three of the (I think) four others who have received or will receive "official", i.e. European spec, MY06 Z06s. One of them, Chris, allowed Evo magazine to use his silver Z almost as soon as he got it, for the kind of test lots of you guys will like. The magazine will be out in the next week and features, apparently, a Z06 lap of the Bedford Autodrome and both a large group 0-60 test and a large 0-100-0 test, each involving a selection of fast cars of different types, including a larger than usual preponderance of American machinery.

The list includes: Caterham CSR260, Lambo Gallardo SE, BMW M6, Marcos TSO GT, Ascari KZ1, Porsche 911S, Porsche Cayman, Audi RS4, Mitsubishi Evo 9 FQ340, a Rage buggy thing (770lbs + 180bhp), Aston V8 Vantage, Chrysler 300 Hemi, Dodge RAM SRT10, Roush Mustang 420R.

Apparently the Z06 came 2nd in 0-60 and 0-100-0 (behind the Caterham, guesses Chris; I suspect the Rage and Ascari are the other possible champs).

That was achieved with the Z06 only having 400 miles on the clock, stock with run-flat tyres. It also set a lap time just 0.25secs behind the F430 in Evo's lap time hall of fame. Shame that - if only it had been a bit longer after delivery!

Will let you know more when I see the magazine.

I really hope mine arrives before Top Gear does its filming...

Wow, that sounds like a heck of an article. Definitely post the results when it comes out so those of us on this side of the pond can se how our unsophisticated American tourist did against the refined european machinery!

Having said all of that, apparently the Z06 only did 0-100 in 9.3 seconds. It was cold and a little damp.

Here's the Caterham:

After looking at the pics of this car, comparing "apples to apples" is clearly not valid here. So in my mind the 'Vette came in first!

Look at the list of cars (& trucks & buggies). The test is precisely NOT about comparing apples to apples.

Apparently they take an amazing methanol powered radio controlled car round the track too, with its owner in an RS4 following and trying to stay in range!

Yeah its not a sports car. Also, technically it is a lot cheaper than the z too, which is a strike against the z being better...Wonder which car is more civil and has better road manners/DD capability, not that i know ANYTHING about this car but i would guess the z06.

Why cant we get a 997TT, Murcielago, F430, Viper, Z06 test is that too much to ask. Maybe they are waiting on the 997tt, hopefully. Compared to those cars the z should have destroyed all of them in my opinion in the 0-100-0 test. Maybe the Gallardo won, since it was cold and damp (AWD).

Lets face it...9.3, 0-100 is PATHETIC for a new Z. Personally i can do sub 8 and the fast guys like ranger are doing like 7.5 or something crazy like that.

EVO magazine may be a good mag over there across the pond but the idea of a comparo with buggies and RC cars along with street going production cars and a super car status Z06 at that just quite doesn't do it for me.

I'll be seeing a copy of the mag at lunchtime when Chris and I go out to do a Z06 vs. TVR comparison run...

It hits the stands in the UK next week (5th April I think) so wilkl have May 2006 on the cover.

A little more detail now that Chris has the mag in his hands:
2nd place with 8.94 secs 0-100, not 9.3.
2nd place in 0-100-0 with 13.95 secs.
2nd place in Vmax.
4th place in lap time behind Caterham SCR260, Ascari and the Gallardo SE.

I must say I am disappointed with that last bit.

Also not sure how these times can/should compare with those from Autocar's similar test but, given that in Autocar the Enzo managed 0-100-0 in 10.98 secs and the Caterham R500 Evolution 10.73 secs, I'd have to admit to a little disappointment at the overall result no matter how race-bred those machines are (and the Caterham's CHEAP!).

As for the Caterham not being a sports car, you are joking, right? I wouldn't get one because you can't carry much around in it, but it's definitely a sports car and a lot of people (nutters in my opinion) use one as their only car.

Re: the 997TT, Murcielago, F430, Viper, Z06 test; well, I know that Evo is planning on doing a 997TT vs. F599GTB vs. Z06 test when it has one of each to play with. I hope mine arrives in time to let them use.

Why? Because the Z06 doesn't win?

It's a lot of fun for the guys that do it and makes an interesting read for those interested in buying (or just knowing about) whatever's fastest, no matter the type of car. FWIW, the Z06 seems to do best out of all the cars that have any practicality about them. Wonder how the Ram SRT10 does.

How can you be disapointed in the Z? Don't get it, get the fasted one out of the bunch if that's your goal. The C6Z's performance is nothing short of outstanding!

You're not disappointed that the Gallardo beat the Z06?

That car is a roller skate not a road car. Heck who wants to drive a car that has no top in rainy England. Not a valid comparison. The Z06 won

Can I load two golf bags in the trunk of the Caterham? Can I keep out of the rain? Can I turn the air conditioning on? Does it have a killer sound system?

I've seen the magazine now.

0-100-0:
1st Caterham CSR260
2nd Z06
3rd Gallardo SE
4th Marcos TSO GT. You'll be pleased to hear the Marcos, which was 0.1 sec behind the Lambo, contains the C6's engine! It was only 0.4 secs behind the Z...

Unfortunately it's not just the "roller skate" that beat the Z round the track though.
