the mer. is a car to impress your neighbors plus it rides much much better than the z and all those options.that said the z is a racing car with tags that 90% of its owners dont use the full potential.so its up to you .get a z and be the first one in the parking lot or the mer. for bragging rights.the z is a chevy that will dampen that boast.
what about the driving comfort of the Z? ive watch both the Top Gear and Fifth Gear episodes and Jeremy and Tiff but say its a good track car but bad on the streets.
What are honest opinions on how it drives on a normal road? Is it extremely stiff?
I take the Z06 on 10 to 12 hour stints several times a year (just not in snow). it's a great road car and my wife and I find it as comfotable as her BMW 5.
Around home, I take it anyplace that I know has safe parking. Of course, in traffic, your left leg needs to be in pretty good shape...but we conditioned ours on our `65 Vette. That clutch took some muscle.
Guess it's all what you're used to.

i think my 01 coup is a truck compared to my 07 z.i dont think its stiff, ive 24 k on it in one year.longest trip 700 miles one way .i was very comportable but the sl is a caddy like ride along side the z.the z is noisey,an MIAI tank gets better mileage,ya have to wash it yourself and shift it but you may take the z06 fender badges off cuz they scare people away. .......they dont even try cause if it had a set of wings man i know she could fly....quote from little duce coup.first gear is a blur second and your a felon in NJ third gear and your brain asks are you sure you want to continue before filing a flight plan
Drove my 02z as my daily, then my 05 Z51 and now my C6Z. It is all a matter of personal preference. I love it. I like the idea of looking forward to my drive into the office every day.

Unless you live in the south were the roads are pristine year-round and parking is ample: I wouldn't want the Z to be my sole transportation. Extremely reliable, yes, but also an exhausting car to drive constantly. It's almost a full-bore racecar, and that can take a toll on you mentally and physically. Don't get me wrong I love this car to death and salivate at every chance I get to drive it, but it's not the least bit practical. Furthermore, I've always found that using this a daily takes alot of the fun out of the car.

Yeah, sorta like how having sex with Heidi Klum every day would eventually get boring.

I have 12,000 miles on mine and i can't drive it in the winter (20 to 25 feet of snow late November to April). It is the only car I have insured the rest of the year, although I occassionally need to use my mother-in-law's SUV. I have a Mercury Mountaineer for the winter, but don't really enjoy driving it.
I couldn't imagine why you wouldn't use it daily, unless you are saving it for the next owner.
I drive mine plenty too, I don't wax it religiously (I don't even wash it myself) or worry about driving it in the worse sportscar environment in the world: Manhattan. That being said, this is not a plush, comfy, luxo-barge. I don't see how somebody in the north of the country could use this as a year-round daily. A C6 Z06 would be a great only car if you are single, never have the need to carry around more then one person at a time, carry nothing more then a few grocery bags at a time, live in climate that rarely drops below freezing, an area with smooth roads without winter induced potholes, and don't have to worry about parking. If you live anywhere with things like seasons, traffic...basically anywhere in a major metropolitan city this car is not the best daily driver out there.
Not a bad "touring car," and I think I would be perfectly comfortable driving my 530rwhp beast across country cam surge et al.
Here's my car in the driving rain @ Tavern on the Green:
I traded my '07 Avalanche for my '07 Z06, and use my '93 Chev, 2500, P/U, with 33,000 miles on it for foul weather movements. With that said, I take the Z most where ever I go. Sometimes I have t walk a little farther, but I need the exercise. I get 20+ mpg in the Z, compared to 12 mpg in the truck. Both my shoulders are broken up, but I am getting used to the work of driving, and love it. Winter is upon me, and I will have to leave it inside, to look at for a few months.
I agree with Norm; its all about you, its your call; I drive mine everyday rain and shine, c5 z06 few mods, it sounds great and performs; it is very dependable and comfortable as well as looks real good and can hold its own with pretty much any other car on the street. I will buy an other but I have no desire as of today. One of the best cars I have owned, I should say one of the three best because this is my third Vette. Do it and don't look back.
