Z06 vs. Viper vs. GT500 Mustang - MT Comparo

The last Motor Trend had a nice head-to-head on the three American (and sort of German in one case) power club.

All excellent rides in their own way but I was glad to see the Z won overall - hands down.

Makes me proud by association!

I'll have to check it out. No offense to the Stang owners out there but I don't believe the GT500 is in the same league as the other two cars in the comparison.

They actually say it's not fair to the Mustang, but give it a nod off the track as preferable to the Viper - they picked the Stang number 2 overall

Norm, your outlook on life is phenomenal!

The GT500 took second place because of it's bang for the buck and real-world practicality. In my opinion, real-world practicality has no place in a test like this, but I don't make the rules.

I ordered a GT500 in April and it arrived in August... luckily I was good friends with the owner of the Ford dealerhip and he gave me back my deposit and made $$$ with the car on eBay.

The car was horrible. At the time I had my fully loaded 2006 Dodge Charger SRT-8, and it felt 100X better than the GT500. The SRT-8 even felt faster! There was no way I was going to pay $52K for that GT500. It doesn't even come with Navigation..........

I totally agree with their rankings. The Viper is an impressive beast for sure, but not a car you can live with on a daily basis IMO. Of course I'm slightly biased about Mustangs.

I didn't read the article, but I can't imagine wanting a GT500 over a Viper. It just isn't the same league of car, IMHO.

I guess if "daily livability" was the #1 decision criteria I might feel different, but it's hard for me to imagine those two cars as being competitors to each other.

Just my $0.02...

*Edit* not to mention, the Viper just *looks* a lot cooler than the Mustang

But I saw a commercial where a guy ships his GT500 to Germany and then proceeds to blow off porsches and ferraris on the autobahn in the rain. So i guess the stang is a good rain car? And the commercial is true isn't it?

It's definitely not in the same league, and the article makes that disclaimer. It's sort of like comparing the Z to an F430. The Z has amazing performance for the money, but at the end of the day you want the F430 in your garage.
