Yupe I found this out after I bought the car as well... I thought I was going to take it to the dealer and have it fixed but then dud a quick search on the forums and found out this feature was not offered in the Z till recently!!
So for those with an '09, what exactly is the auto close?, Is it like the electric trunk closures that GM had back in the 80's & 90's on various cars (cadillacs & camaros come to mind) where it would catch the latch and draw the trunk closed?
Is this adaptable to the 06-08's assuming one were to purchase the parts and wire them in?
My Z is driven quite frequently, and its quite a pain making sure to leave one of the doors open before shutting the hatch.

That is the most annoying thing about closing the hatch, but what you could do is let the hatch rest on the latch and give it a gentle push as opposed to slaming it...
My 2008 owners manual and DVD specifically states that the Z06 does NOT have the autoclose hatch feature in order to save weight, and requires a firm close. My passenger seat also is not power versus ZR1 power operation, I guess this is why my 2008 registration weight is a low 3118 lbs, while the Z06 weight has crept up over 3200lbs after 2008 with larger dry sump tank, etc(much higher for Z07 Carbon versions with heavier hardware).
Well I guess I am glad mine is not broken! My owners manual doesn't have any info except the auto close option. I havent watched the DVD yet, but I have it.
It does require a firm close...
Thanks for the info.
Always good to close the hatch with one of your windows open or with the door open so that all that air inside has somewhere to go. I know it is a hassle but you can just drop the lid from 1-2 inches and it will close versus slamming it or having to push it closed with your hand.

Not required as designed into the car is 2 1 way pressure flaps in rear inner fenders that releases pressure outward

The Carbon weighs in at 3150...

I referenced Road & Track August 2011 issue page 126, which states that a Z06 Carbon weight was 3305 lbs as tested on 1/2011 (latest and greatest Z06 Year 2011 option available at that time).
In contrast R&T March 2010 issue page 100, states that a Z06 weight was 3190 lbs as tested on 5/2008 (Year 2008 Z06). I attribute the delta in greater magazine weight over my auto registration scale weight of 3118 lbs was due to the fact that my 2008 is only a 2LZ model versus the 3LZ model tested in the magazine which has all of the extra added weight of the thicker leather panels plus other luxury aspects.
So I was just going by what is stated in fact sheet listings, which were based on actual weight scale measurements.
I agree that if a door is left open the hatch is very easy to close. I hate slamming anything. I have to remind my wife that if the window is open on the door, to please not shut the door as hard, as with the window open it is more like a slam.
