I had the rattle fixed per Service Bulletin. Rattle gone, however, since I supposedly got an 08 shifter as part of the rattle fix (says the Service Manager) sometimes I now can't get to first gear. I'm stopped at a light and it just won't let me into first gear. Sometimes I can't get into 2nd downshifting from 3rd. The lockout from 5th to reverse works, but it feels like I'm going to hit reverse. Not very positive. Generally, this is not satisfactory. Dealer finds everything aligned and normal. Of course they can't get it to happen in the few minutes they try. I told them I can't make it happen on command, it's just a random thing. No, it's not the skip shift. I'm told the new shifter is tighter shift pattern which was part of the rattle fix and it's only got a couple thousand miles on it. I'm supposed to just drive it and it should get better and "wear in". Maybe that's true, maybe not. What do you think? Suggestions? Service Manager says all an after market shifter will do is maybe shorten the throws, but still has to follow same shift pattern. I just don't like it the way it is. What's the fix?
I think your dealer is "talking through his hat". That's old speak for BS.
Make them fix your car.
My 07 used to rattle when new, but has not done it in several thousand miles. I have about 8K miles on it. Never did anythig to it and your post made me realize it doesn't rattle anymore.
Take it back you could end up getting rear ended by some dip stick in a hurry on a cell phone eating a 2 pound burger and fries while your hung up trying to find 1st gear. Maybe a different dealership? Seems there are fewer corvette friendly shops left with real techs to work on our cars. I do as much as I can to avoid a line of BS. I will say so far (knock on wood) the dealership I'm working with are good people. On the other side of the county it's much different so I avoid them. Good luck.
I had my shifter replace by the dealer due to the rattle you referred to. A few months later I noticed myself having trouble getting the car in 1st , 2nd and reverse. In any gear you could feel movement when you pushed side to side which caused the shifter to not align properly and of course not shift properly. The dealer "readjusted" the shifter and it is ok now. Try sitting in your car and put it in first. Can you move the shifter side to side more than usual? If you can, this is your problem.

I couldn't wiggle it. She's tight side to side in first and second gear. I backed out of the driveway this morning and the damn thing did it again. I couldn't get into first or second until I hit reverse again and backed up a couple of feet. Since then no problem. It's a little notchy (if that's a word) going from 1st to 2nd. Anyway, it's not "slick" from 1st to 2nd. I called the dealer after your email and talked to the gear head service manager. He said there's nothing to adjust. All pins line up and linkage is spot on. I don't know what to think. And I don't know why it happens or when it's going to happen. Nor do I know what to do to fix it. If an after market shifter would "fix" it, I'd just go buy it. Service manager doesn't seem to think a new shifter will do any good. Maybe time for Honda Civic.
