Hi guys......I'm new in here, just got my 08 black Z06 yesterday after selling my 3 month old 08 red C6 coupe. I noticed theres a difference in the rear hatch locking mechanism when you close it. In the Z06 i really have to push it down for it to lock but in my regular C6 coupe its mechanical, it pulls itself down to lock.........does anybody noticed the difference? or theres something wrong with my Z06?.......thanks for any info
Nothing's wrong with your Z. It doesn't have the hatch pull down like the coupe. Just open the driver's door and the hatch will close fine if you drop it from about eye level.
No, you can't add the pull down latch. I asked the factory.
Welcome (as a relative noob myself!)...I was surprised by that too, but alas, no power. I forgive it...I'm the type that would get hand roll-up windows if it were a weight saving option.
Thread hijack:
I just got back form getting my Z last week, and my dad drove it for a very short time on the trip. He was thinking of a C6 for a couple of reasons:
1) now has 430hp
2) automatic (he's got some hip arthritis)
3) targa top
4) no track time planned
5) mom wants comfort
But after the short drove, learning how sweet this car is on the hwy just for cruising, and how light the clutch is, and I suspect there's something to do with 505hp, he is considering a Z.
The power rear hatch pull down will be standard equipment on the '09 Z06 and ZR1, per...

thanks for the info....its just kinda odd that its way more expensive and doesnt have that feature.....
It is to save weight. Thats also why the C5z didn't have the power antenna or passenger pwr seat. These motors weight add up. Everything on the car is about saving weight for that 0-60 time, Carbon fiber fenders, aluminum frame, less sound insulation, ect.. All of these thing cost more + a number of other things that make it the Zo6 monster!
I personally chose the 1LZ package because I don't like the idea of steering wheel audio controls on a performance car. In 09 I'd not have the option. Maybe that's silly, but I don't see anything that makes me upset that I bought an 08.
But...Cars keep getting better and better. Can't fret it...Wonder what the new AH/TC upgrades will be...???
Anytime one can keep their hands on the wheel while performing other tasks, it's a benefit. It's also safer. Look at most modern Ferrari's and race cars for example, both of which have steering wheel controls.
Although it's possible to inadvertently increase/decrease the volume or change the channel while driving the benefits far outweight the virtually nil disadvantage. Besides, one can always leave the radio off.
1) Anyone know if the wiring is already there in the Z06 for the Hatch Lock Mechanism and it is as simple as putting in the component?
2) My 'fix' for this was to install the "Window Valet" from Southern Car Parts and I just lower the windows prior to shutting the rear hatch and it plops down just fine.
