Gears grind bad from 1st to 2nd. I spoke to some other Z06 owners that told me its a known issue, and that they have had their clutch, and/or "synchros" repaired several times under warranty. Anyone know about this in here?
It's only happened to me w/ my o8 twice. Both times I was cranking and I think it was more me than the car. I felt it was my clutching and or shifting. I haven't had that happen under normal or even somewhat hard acceleration.
If your dealer checks out that TSB and determines the trans is OK, about the only other thing you an do is change trans fluids. Some people have had better luck with Amsoil ATF or Redline D4 ATF (yes our trans takes ATF). I put in the Amsoil ATF and noticed that once it had a chance to properly circulate (about 1 days driving) the shifting became smoother all around. Cold is still tighter feeling than when warm, but not quite as bad. Warm is almost like butter now. YMMV...
Don't have a C6 Z06, so can't really comment on your problem, but if you decide to try the AMSOIL ATF option mentioned above, ordering info in my sig will point you in the right direction. PM if you have any questions.
I've had the same problem in my 08Z. It all happened while attempting to speed shift at the dragstrip while racing my brothers solstice GXP with a 75 shot of NOS. LOL. I know. I didn't need to speedshift, but what can I say. It was fun. I took the car to the dealership and they said the synchros were damaged as well as 2nd gear. They replaced the transmission under warranty. While I was experiencing the issue I was able to shift from 1st to second without grinding as long as the engine was under 2500rpms.
Not what I was asking, I mean if a problem is found do they correct the problem at the factory or keep letting the dealer fix them?
In any production environment, that depends on a lot of factors... how severe the failure, how high the failure %, the fix required, where they are in the production cycle, if parts need to be reworked/modified/sent back to vendor, etc. I doubt you're going to find anyone to tell you from any big co like GM which problems are reworked in production & which ones are just left for the dealer to fix. It usually boils down to cost with any of them.
