3 inches wider then other covette models?

The new Z specs tout the car is "3 inches (76.2 mm) wider than other covette models. Does this statement (In your opinion) include the new C6? I love the the width of the Viper and if the Vette flattened out a bit that would be a super hulking look as well. What do you think?

I believe they mean the C6 Z06 is 3" wider, at the fender flares, than the C6 coupe is at the same points.

That will effect the top speed. In early ZR1 testing ( it was also 3" wider) They found that the LT5 (ZR1 engine) in a narrow body (regular coupe) to be 5 to 7 MPH faster due to increased drag.

Not only the wider body, but wider tires too, so more drag than the coupe.

It should mean three inches wider than the base car's maximum width wherever that occurs. It's probably at the front flares, but it might be at rear brake scoops.

It cracks me up that after all the hype about aero and the horrible frc roof line that they ended up with a coupe that has a c/d of .31 (which is almost certainly .31X rounded down). That's IDENTICAL to the horrible old C5 Z06 notchback that Hill was criticizing.

And the C6 Z will have a greater frontal area than the C5 Z, so it'll have greater total drag.

Quite correct. Looks like the C5 Z06 will be a bit lighter.

If they had thrown the aluminum frame, magnesium, carbon fiber and other tricks (passenger side manual seat!) at a C5 Z06 and left the wet sump alone, they'd have been way down in the 2900-pound range with a more slippery car, and for a lot less bucks.

I'm underwhelmed.
