Active Bolstering?

We're all aware of the insufficient lateral support in the stock seats. I understand that the M5 offers something called "active bolstering" which simply means the side bolstering can be adjusted for different body types with the push of a button. While this may not be equivalent to a full-fledged racing seat, it would certainly be an improvement over the current setup.

What do you think?

Jake you must be one of the skinny owners I showed a little guy one day at the track how to lock his seat belt down snug, and he was like wow I did not know it could do that! Cinch that bad boy down until it holds your butt to the seat. I do not have that trouble as I'm too big to move much in the seat as it is. Don

Yeah, I think anything would help.

I think they should make alcantara on the seats optional to help hold you in.

Re: Active Bolstering?

I have this similar option on my Mercedes E500. It is actually kind of cool.

Don, I accidentally discovered the ratcheting featured on the lap belt last week. It works great! I'm much more connected to the car and thus have greater control. Very simple, yet so effective. I'm hoping a 6-point harness will improve upon this further.

I'm sure it will. I have thought about the harness bar and belts as well through the years.

Re: Active Bolstering?

IMHO they should offer better seats in the Z06.

Re: Active Bolstering?

after ya lock the seatbelt give the seat and inch forward or so. i looked into a six point system,my friend has a stockcar fab. shop,he looked at the car and agreed that unless ya change the seat the six pointer will not work like its designed to.i had the side bolsters in my 01 coup [i used to get thrown around in it] but the z seats are better than the c5 .IMO

This feature is awesome! I took a buddies M5 through some twisty roads back home and it was truly awesome

I have heard that a 6 point harness will work with a sternum latch. But that's the other thing that irritates me about the seats...why didn't they make them with passthru's? Even the C5 coupe and vert have passthru's...kind of. It just boggles the mind.

Re: Active Bolstering?

If you're thin you can modifiy the stock seats for no money and they will hold you pretty well. Infact, I'm amazed at how well they fit me - 5'10" 190 lbs.

All you do is peel up the covers, pull the foam off the frame(it's on the inside and outside of the frame), slide it to the inside of the frame, put the cover back in place.

It's one of the best mods I did to my car and it was zero dollars. It probably took one hour of my time to remove the seats, do the mod, and re-install the seats. The only downside is that heavier drivers(and passengers in my car since I did both seats) will feel the seat is too small or tight for them.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to give that a try.
