Bad Wheel Hop

Coming home from the store last nite and this kid in a tweaked-up turbo'd VW something comes after me. He's behind me at a light, when I see his lights jump and try to go around me I hit it. At about 3/4 throttle tires spin, T/C takes over and I get violent wheel hop. Bang second and the same thing, it settles down, ease to W/O and he got to see ZO6 tail lights get smaller.
It was pretty bad, I've noticed it slightly in the past but nothing like this.
Would being way low on fuel (less than an 1/8) and being real light make it worse? And what might the cure be?

These threads may answer a few of your questions about wheel hop:
  1. Wheel hop
  2. Hopp'n Rear

Re: Bad Wheel Hop

Thanks! Sounds like there is no "magic" cure. A few interesting posts about the rear squatting and the T/C actually inducing hop.I think the first thing I'm going to try is drop the tire press. little to 28, a full tank of gas, and the T/C off. Then the shock/bushing mods

Re: Bad Wheel Hop

Don't know how cool it was in FL then, but keep in mind, you have over 500 hp. Also don't know when you "hit it" if you slammed it or not but you need to roll the power on with these beasts. Meter the throttle, don't use it as an on-off switch.

Re: Bad Wheel Hop

It was about 75F, and yeah, I've learned not to stab it, but even rolling it on it's like 3/4 is all I can use in first, just breaks loose with any more. Frustrating not being able to put it all to the ground

Know what you mean...and 75 seems warm enough. How's your rubber? Sometimes seems like forever waiting for it to hook-up.
Have a visit to the CF side and read about Ranger and his 11-sec 1/4 miles. He seems to have it figured out.
