Best long tube headers 06 Z06

Which are the best Long tube headers? I have heard about both the American racing headers & the LG headers. which one is best? Just bought 06 Z06 Lemans Blue every option and want to upgrade the exhaust.

I'd suggest the american racing brand headers as a first choice.

I'm very happy with them on my 2001 C5 Z06.

I hear the larger ones available are great for the 427cubic inch motor.

good luck in your decision.

Depends on what motor you have. For the LS6 (stock CID), I'd choose the LG 1 3/4 Headers. For the new LS7 & stroker motors. The big tube 1 7/8 American Racing Headers would be my choice. Both the LG's and American Racing Headers are the only manufacturers to have merge collectors.

I've been following this for quite some time, and still have not pulled the trigger on headers. The LG's seem to make as much HP and more TQ that any other header (1 3/4" tubes)
However, they are a bit of a PITA to install, and the ports are not "D" shaped like the LS7 heads. I think either would be good.

headers

The 06 Z06 comes only with the new LS7 with D port heads.
If LG's do not come with D port shape then I guess I will go with the American Race Headers

I'd like to throw in a curve. Tried some alternative headers on an EMC configuration simulation. With the headers you'd expect on a 700hp engine, there was a drop in torque around 3700. This reflects the actual results of the engine being simulated. Changing to a 1.75" header filled the hole in the simulation, leaving a smooth torque curve with a minor loss in the top 700 rpm (to 6500).

I'm wondering if in the rush to big diameters, which may make a better drag race engine, a hole is being created that will always be present in street driving.

The site with the graph is down now. I will replace this text with a link when it comes back.

Has anyone heard about the headers used at MTI Atlanta? I am thinking of taking my car there very soon, and I'm unsure of which headers I want to go with. The only info I have, is that they are stainless steel, slightly thicker metal than the Kooks, 1 7/8", and are the same headers that LPE are using on their cars.

I have heard nothing but great things about MTI Atlanta, but would like more info on the headers....just not sure where I can find it.

Anyway, not trying to hijack the thread, but was wondering if anyone had input on those headers.

All I can say is that it doesnt hurt to do some research...But for me, The AMERICAN RACING HEADERS.. complete set-up...had them ceramic coated silver, looks nice.... gained great power!.. My Z06 is puting 409 RWHP 390 TQ. I also had lightweight flywheel installed, performance clutch, cold air induction, and A&A tune...simply the best for tuning your vette! I am very happy.... Personally...American Racing....the best!

This is on your C6 Z06, right?

Guys, I'm looking at a few of the responses and I think some may have overlooked the thread question. This is NOT a C5 question, it is about the C6 Z06. Manufacturers of headers (or any other parts for that matter) for one model car may not do as good a job for a different model.

Please respond to the thread starter regarding headers for the C6 Z06 as he requested. It will be more helpful to him in his research.

Mike

A C6 Z06 will REQUIRE a minimum of 1 7/8 header.

The 1 3/4 that are out for the C6 Z06 are not enough.

Some manufacturers are claiming great gains but in reality they are minimal.

One instance was about 12 rwhp.

I would be pissed.

LG Pro Longtubes

In Dyno after dyno test, the LG's have PROVEN they produce MORE USABLE MID-RANGE POWER (especially torque), over the American Racing headers! They both offer similar PEAK HP numbers, but the LG Pro's are the BEST for street and track use!

What you say may very well be true, but I guess I would ask the same question that hudsonsrule has. How much hp/tq did you pick up on your C6 Z06 after you put on the LG headers?

This thread isn't about brand loyalty I don't think. The man is looking for proven, verifiable results with headers on a C6 Z06. Everything else is just hype!

Mike

btw, if people are wondering about my interest in this thread, I have a build date of August on an '07 Z and I'm curious about headers for myself.

I had LG headers on my C5Z.

I'm going American Racing on my C6Z.

D port to D port makes sense to me. While I don't think the bigger headers is needed on a stock LS7 it leaves room for the day I decide to throw a cam in it.

I've also seen the quality and the fitment on the car. There's a good amount of room between the headers and everything else. With LG the oil return lines need to be moved...which I'm told isn't a big deal.

A friend of mine makes custom headers for exotics and I had him look at both headers. He said American Racing headers look like they would flow better than the LG's and look better overall.

LG and American Racing are pretty much the only ones to go with. They use the better collectors and a full steel setup. Frankly after the problems getting my exhaust switch and the BS dyno numbers he throws out....I just don't like LG anymore.

That said on a stock LS7 they're both going to make pretty much the same power.

and now....Pepsi or Coke?
