Best Oil for Z06 (Alternatives to GM4719 Spec Mobile1)
Been reading everything I can find, but still hard to find clear answers. Of course this is for engines that are not under warranty and looking for superior replacement.
1. German Castrol (0W-30): One report I read had the lowest wear of several tests.
2. Amsoil: They have 3 types available in 5w-30 for the Z06, as well as a 0W-30 which some people prefer. They show their own comparison data, but they leave out some others I am interested in.
3. Castrol Edge (with Syntec): Claim to have 8x less wear than Mobile One, and like the German one, used in high end cars often.
4. Mobil 1 Extended Performance: Seems to be a newer version, but unsure about Z06 use.
There are lots of others that I would prefer to skip in this particular thread at the moment (E.g. Pennzoil, Purple Royal, Quaker State, etc...)

I've used Amsoil in several cars over a number of years and never had any problems. Though, as of late and after thinking about it a bit, I sort of question this product because of how they sell it. Sort of reminds me of a ponzi pyramid scheme and the fact they don't sell in stores or anything is just a bit creepy. I guess that kind of makes me wonder about the legitimacy of their claims. But that's just me, and as I said before I've used it for years with zero problems and it has always appeared to work as advertised. But when it comes to My vette and seeing as how I still have powertrain warranty remaining, I just use Mobil 1 as GM suggests, I guess I figured if they' say its ok and guarantee my motor running it, its good enough for me.

I agree w/ your alternatives and read very good things regarding German 0/30. I will add one to your list. Mobile european 0/40w if your tracking or in a hotter climate. I do not like Castrol edge. I had the occasion to open up a motor that used it elusively since new (prior owner owned a Castrol oil change). It had a lot of deposits inside, wasn't pretty and clean like a Mobil one engine.
Check out what vendors have been tested, approved and check the licensed brands
You have to wonder why others making claims that they are better cannot or will not get tested by GM
And yes the Mobil I extended is dexos 1 approved.
Stick with Mobil as they have their own testlab right at GM Warren Mi tech center and are long term testing of GM powertrains now and while new engines are ALPHA state
Only thing to consider is for street 5W30 OK, but for hot weather or racing use the 10W40 Mobil as less blowby oil loss.

That's a great link--thanks racingvette. My car is under warranty & I'll be using that shortly.
I wonder how much it costs for a particular oil company to get added to that list. Red Line isn't on it either for example. (Disclaimer: I've only used the CV-2 wheel bearing grease so far on a previous car).
Mobile 1 does seem pretty decent for the price though.

I see it like a lot of car things. Sure, they were decent 5-10 years ago, but newer versions of things can often be improved, and when mine is a daily driver, looking to get 100K miles out of it, this could help a bit...maybe
With my Japanese cars, getting 300K miles is easy (only using Castrol)

Red line to this day has never even gotten SAE/API tested from 20 years ago and still charges twice as more much less go through newer GM dexos1 testing
API costs was only like 2 cents per barrel so quite cheap to be tested/certified

Yeah, not a fan of that method either. Sorta cult like, even though seems to be a decent company/product overall.
Re: Best Oil for Z06 (Alternatives to GM4719 Spec Mobile1)
I live right near the Amsoil HQ but still I have issues with them. They play the "synthetic" semantics game with the best of them. Fine oil, but about 8$/qt for their "real" synthetic. I'd suggest euro spec 5W-40 Amsoil would be a good choice.
I used Mobil 1 for years then went away to redline and amsoil, and now I still think Mobil 1 is the best deal, have proven to myself with oil analysis with my LS7 that it is doing its job, and though I may increase the vis when out of warranty, I'll stick with M1.

They need to update the list as Royal Purple is now DEXOS approved and wears the Approved for Gasoline Engines seal as does the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. I recommend only using oils on the approved list until you are out of warranty. I run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Extended Performance in mine as I stocked up when it was on sale recently. Otherwise I would opt for the Royal Purple.

The list is also missing 3 Amsoil 5w30s that have been approved. Their Signature Series, XL and OE series are all dexos1. Amsoil altered the composition of their detergent to meet the requirements according to their website. They were approved a year ago.
For me, the easiest way to get Amsoil is spend $20 on a preferred customer account and buy online. The $20 buys you a 15-20% discount for a year. The math works for me since I get Amsoil for less than Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart and they deliver it to my door. I go through a lot of fluids around here though. Even my lawn equipment uses Amsoil.

Speaking of C4, wasn't that a C4 that did that top-speed record going about 187 for 24 hours putting so many tens of thousand miles on the car, then the engine got opened and it looked new.. that was with Mobil 1, iirc.
