Break-in

I read other posts before my Z arrived,( about break-in miles) and read many diffrent opinions, but I really would like to know how many of you were REALLY able to keep your foot out of it ? I can say I really tried hard to not break it in too hard but found the gas pedal to be like a bad habit...the more you want.....the more the car could and would give you!
I don't drive my Z everyday, and I am about at 450 miles.(in the last 3 weeks) I told myself I would break this Z in Better than I did my others ...................BUT ..........if am being honest about it......I HAVE FAILED!!!!!!!!!! This is like being back in school!! I would like to know if I am the only Z owner who can not follow directions.

I see it as an investment. If I am patient and do it right, it will lead to years of care free driving.

Ok Keith if your scared of 7,000rpm's just drive it on over to MD and I will do the dirty deed for ya! I have asked begged Norman enough for a ride so I guess I will work on you now.

Glad you have respect for her. I am green with envy for you guys that can afford them. Very cool car.

It's not that I have ran it up to 7000, or that I have dumped the clutch from a dead stop; I have not been as gentle to it as I would like to have been. For example, at about 35mph I would get on it to around 4500rpm then let off. BTW, what a rush!! If you change lanes ( 1 only ) while doing this the back end will get slightly loose . I should let you know that I have access to a private airstrip!!! I have not had the car over 4500rpm, so have I been too hard on it ? No matter how fast I get there?

450 miles is 400 too many! Make sure everything is hot then have fun with 450 on it. You should not use the brakes hard until they are bedded (about 150-200 miles) but engine is "OK" to run up once you get it good and hot. GO HAVE FUN!

As tempted as I was, I took it easy the first 500 miles and then drove it like I wanted to all along. Mine has 1900 miles on it now.

I also recently bought a new GMC truck and did the same.

pick me, pick me! I'll be in Dallas next week...
Does it REALLY matter fi one follows break in recs? I've heard the engines are broken in at the factory B4 being mounted but a friend of mine with an M3 was told by the dealer they'd check the ECU to see if he over-revved during his break in and if so, the warranty would be voided! That sounds like BS to me.

If thats the case, then most cars (corvettes) that have been test driven would have voided warranties.

I'm gonna do it faster than that. I figure by the time I get it out of the museum and let it run for a couple of minutes while I take some pics out front, it ought to be up to operating temperature. Soon as I hit I65 south, it's going WOT through the first 4 gears.
