C5Z weight vs. C6Z weight

With the major weight reductions made why is the new Z so close the C5Z?

Do the wheels, tires. rotors etc...of the new Z add that much more weight?

Think it might be the sticker on the window with the price that weighs it down Tony.

Brakes, wheels, tires, coolers all add weight. It is the same size block and heads, so that shouldn't.

There are two seat options. I'll bet with the regular seats it is as heavy or heavier than a C5Z.

The stock F1's on are cars very very light compare to other manufacturers in the same size.

GY F1 GS CS

265/40x17 = 23#
275/40x18 = 24.5#
295/35x18 = 25.5#

I would estimate that in the new Z06 there 20 to 30 pounds in tires (run-flats) and rims alone.

Notch back glass (C5Z) vs Hatch back glass (C6Z). A LOT of weight comes from that glass alone.

They did a lot to make the C5Z lighter, like the wheels, the seats, lack of options, thinner glass, etc. I don't think they did as much with the peripherals on the C6Z. Instead, the took the weight out of the chasis and gave us back the other items. JMHO!

It sure leaves room for a "lightweight edition" a few years down the road doesn't it? Knock 300 lbs off and call it a day.

A lot of uninformed idiots among the C-5 owners

I hate to break this to you, C5 owers: The C6 regular vette is just as good if not better than the C5Z06. The C6Z06 is a way better car than the regular C6. You get the drift. I know people all tend to be sentimental. That's all right. Just dont take it to the extreme.

I get the feeling a lot of you are trying to put down the C6 Z to hang on to the notion that your own C5 Z is still a great performer. Don't get me wrong, the C5 Z is still a great car. But I can make a regular C5 just as much of a car as your C5 Z. You sure can't say that about the C6 and C6 Z. There is a total conceptual difference between C6 and new Z. With the C5, all you got is some minor weight and engine head work to to get the Z. Night and Day situations.

Wake up! People, the C6 Z is a totally different animal than the C5 Z.

Wow, thanks for wake up call! Most of us had no idea that the new Z06 is that much different than the old one. What's next? Let me guess... your going to tell us it's the year 2005.
