During a plant tour on 7/23, I saw a fabric-covered car that may have been a new Z06.
The covered car was located early in the regular tour route (there are several) during the long walk between the first and second stops. It was in a semi-enclosed booth behind translucent yellow plastic sheeting on the opposite side of the walkway to the line and adjacent to an employee break area. There was an uncovered and partially assembled convertible in a similar booth next to it.
I didn't notice the car until the tour group had passed the area, and I went back briefly to verify what I'd seen. An employee near the car said, 'We can't show you that one."
The car may or may not have had wheels mounted; it also might have been on a towveyor or trolley. Its profile was significantly wider than the standard C6 and the flares were evident even under the cover. In fact, even covered, the net appearance was so different it looked like it would be difficult or impossible to disguise the car for road testing without tons of padding.
The draped appearance was considerably more graceful than the standard C6, and the net effect was to make the roof and car appear lower and wider, instead of tall and narrow. Whether the rear roof profile is actually different, I can't say, but the overall sideview was not reminiscent of the coupe.
I'm also not certain about the rear of the car. It was not visible again until near the end of the tour when I was about 100 feet away and across several portions of the line in another area. It may, underscore may, have had a different rear upper deck/spoiler profile with a more distinct or raised lip on it. I can't say for sure, it was too far away.
In fact, no portion of the material draped over the car gave the impression of having a C6 beneath it. Nor was there any appearance of padding. Interestingly, a plant official I spoke with last weekend about building the Z06 inadvertently said the panels (and, I gather, a lot of other parts) were different. Afterward, he went silent, and apparently regretted saying that.
Later on the tour, I noticed a group of 10-20 black hoods, again opposite the line and in an area where the Le Mans Blue hoods were kept last year when there were finish issues. Only the underside of the hoods was visible, and they were stacked tightly together. The storage area was dark, and the black made the lines indistinct, but they nevertheless appeared different than (or, if you prefer, to) several standard hoods which were laying by the tour walkway.
From the underside, they appeared to be thicker/deeper in cross-section near the front of the hood rather like an early C3 big block hood. It could easily have been an illusion, but that also would be consistent with the rumored hood air intake.
They may simply have been hoods for black cars since the underside of the stock hood has some body-colored areas, or they might have been something else.
All of this is fwiw. It could have been nothing. Or not. I'm posting since while the tours are down for the weekend, some of the festgoers with connections may be in the plant before Monday.
Since I have a deposit on a C6 Z06 i find this very interesting.Thank you much.Greg

I was told by a very reliable source, I mean sort of from the horses mouth, that it is the new Z06 that is covered up. It's going to have a duck tail rear and is going to be 3" wider. The sad news I learned was that it is going to be shy of 500HP. It's going to be more like 49xHP. The tires are going to be very meaty. I took the tour twice and missed it.

Sounds like your source may be the same as my source for the panel info.
The duck tail/spoiler/kickup is what my impression was, although I only saw the rear for a few seconds, and I didn't have a C6 beside it compare it to. It wasn't extreme enough to stand out, but it appeared different.
When the tour I was on ended on Friday afternoon, I went back again in case they were still forming groups due to the overflow crowd, but the last one had left several minutes earlier, so I didn't get a second chance.
Someone may still see the car, although it may have be moved to another location by now. Or maybe not, if no one's watching this board.
