"Impresive as the engine is, good aftermarket tuners are probably capable of squeezxing 500 hp into your Corvette. Where the factory has an edge is in engineering and constructing a complete design to take full advantage of the power boost, and Hills team has left very little on the table. Start with the electronics of course, fully intergrating the ABS , traction control and stability control systems, allamended to suit the new hardware." Autoweek
Its definitely going to be hard for tuners to squeeze any more ponies out of her unless they supercharge

Although the stock car sounds awesome enough I tend to think tuners will manage to tweak the motor for even more performance once they figure out how to get into the pcm for tuning capability...throw in a wilder cam....maybe a set of long tube headers....(not sure if its worth the extra 10% more horsepower to void the warranty)
500's a pretty hefty number especially since it comes in fully warrantied...
Track events too according to Hills comments in Autoweek this week...
Can't wait to see some #'s on the gearing. I've seen 0-60 figures as low as 3.5 sec
Sounds like it may have a 3.15 rear axel?! Or, a lower 1'st gear in the tranny.....
Love the look Lotsa great pix in that Auto Week article
I was impressed with autoweeks coverage...
Best out of all the magazines I've read to date..
Not having to shift out of first to run to 60mph is quite a good idea for impressive Magazine numbers....
I was surprised by the fact that hitting such good performance numbers will be so easily repeatable as long as the driver gets a good launch out of the hole.
I have a feeling the active handling will aid the driver in getting consistant performance in a similiar fashion to the Ferrari F430...(different technology in the two cars)
Those huge tires....lower rear axle ratio? new technology and dam impressive performance..........
and with a warranty to boot.
Priced in mid 60's too according to the article as well...
Mid 60's! Fully optioned up around 70 sounds about right..
I just read on another forum from Jim Hall that with 11:1 compression it will be difficult to put a supercharger or a twin turbo set up on. It seems GM has done this car right in raw cubes with little room for improvement. Greg

im relatively confident that there will be alot of room for improvement in this powerplant. simply because this 427 puts out 500 flywheel hp, and we have tuners putting out 427's with around 620 flywheel hp (550-560rwhp). i think a cam on the new z will be a great deal for those who want to modify.

Your right, Doug Rippie's 427 that came in second in "One Lap of America" was putting out 640 BHP, and I recently saw a tuner who had one at 650BHP. So, 500 BHP is pretty conservative.
I wonder if the transmission is going to be differnet or not. If the transmission is different this new car will be a real big jump from this car. Everything is going to be new and not just improved.

By the way, the LS7 is really a 428 c.i. engine
We are not using mathematical averages here. The cubes are slightly over 427 (something like 427.6). This doesn't equate to a 428. You don't have a 428 ci engine, you do have 427 and change. If I've got $600,000, i'm not a millionaire.
Also, Dave Hill says "occasional weekend use will not void the warranty". I'm pretty sure every corvette owner drives their car on the weekends. Are our warranties voided? Does he mean occaisional weekend tracking? Is he setting us up for voided warranties?
Scenario: I go to dealership for a warranty issue.
Dealer: "Do you track the car."
Me: "Ya, I did my first event yesterday, but got this problem on the first lap."
Dealer: "Sorry, no can do."
Me: "But Dave Hill said...."
Dealer: "He said occasional weekend use, not tracking. You drive it every weekend, so.."
Me (bending over): "Thank you sir, may I have another"
