C6 Z06- Nurburgring times in article

More proof of the Z06 lapping the N-ring in 7:40. Here is a German article stating the times for the Z06. Note how they say "Z06" and NOT "Blue Devil"

http://www.imageark.net/image.php?id=122345

Translation:

“Record was not in

Straight from his GT1 class victory at Le Mans, Jan Magnusson shortly thereafter at the Nuremburg Ring came up with speed. With the Corvette Z06, should the track record fall – great advertising for the new sports Corvette. However, more than a good 7:40 wasn’t in it. The North Loop record for Series Cars is still held by a Donkervoort RS: 7:18:01.”

It is funny how the Germans are trying to send the message to the public that 7:40 is just a "Good time", and that a better time just "wasn't in it"... Hey, atleast they are trying, right?..

Also,

Found this over at GM LSX Syndicate: Another indication of the Z06's aweosme lap time and they state the driver, also.

Interesting analysis

Car 'Ring Time (seconds) List (Dollars) Dollars/Second
CGT 438 $440,000 $1,004.57
C6 Z06 463* $75,000** $161.99
GT3 Cup 469 $100,690 $214.70
Lambo Merc 470 $319,250 $679.26
Ferrari 360 CS 476 $189,000** $397.06

* Not yet official
** Estimated

For what it's worth, we all know the Z06 is a great bargain for the performance. Interesting, the GT3 is a close second. Very nice car, my rich doctor friend owns one.

FYI, couldn't get spaces to show up in post. Sorry for the jumbled data.

Now, I know this doesn't take into account quality, build, prestige, etc. But, it is a great way of analyzing performance to cost.

BTW, Dollars per second is not a very meaningful stat.

What if I spent 10 dollars and it took me 30 minutes? My DPS score would be even lower.

If the Carerra GT were faster, its DPS score would go UP.

Which is better?

Still with this story? Then we know why the C6 Z06 is delayed - if after all the hoopla it could only turn a 7m43s lap and it takes 600hp car to turn a 7m40s lap then GM better pack up and go home - because they are about to be eclipsed BIG time by the Eurosports coming down the pike.

This would mean that Corvette has only caught up to 3 year old tech and is about to be blown away again.

I am still holding the fact that the blue car photogtaphed was just a blue car.

i wouldn't have stopped until i got 7:39. what's one more second. there's always room for at least a bit of improvment.

I'm with you RC45, common sense should prevail here. Guys, it's a blue Z with black rims. If any one else receives Corvette Quarterly, there is an article in there about 24 hour testing of a white Z06 at Virgina's International Raceway by the Corvette team. Guess what that Z is wearing - yep, black wheels.

MAkes sense to me--they'll be black after lapping the ring anyway. Any hard testing is going to make those shiny rims dirty and ugly. If folks are taking pictures, you'd want to hide all the brake dust. Black rims.

Although, I wonder if they're kicking themselves for sending over a blue one instead of a red or yellow one?

I guess I can see how they might have done it on purpose--like I explained before, the press and everyone starts thinking a 7:40 is the best a Blue devil can do, and then this amazing time makes the cover of one of the major mags, and it shouts, "Z06 turns 7:40 on the Nurburgring." Whammo--the rumours played their part by throwing everyone off the scent. And then, there is still the Blue Devil floating around in development--menacing the CGT and Enzo, easily capable of times that will embarass the $400k+ cars.

If I was working at GM, I'd be watching all this drama and laughing to myself.

The problem here is the faster you go the higher your cost per second. If the Z06 did 7:30 it would be more expensive per second!!!

Using speed would give the result you want. The speeds would be 106.2, 100.5, 99.2, 99.0, and 97.7 respectively after rounding. The $$$ per mph are $4,142, $746, $1,015, $3,225, and $1,934 respectively. The effect is to reduce the advantage vs. faster cars and increase it vs. slower ones.

Guess which one is the Z06.

Using 460 seconds and $70k for the C6Z, the number would be $692.
