C6 Z06 Vararam intake woes

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forums and figured out what intake to buy without posting that epic "WHAT INTAKE TO BUY" thread that I'm sure everyone loves.

But I tried to install my Vararam intake on my 2007 C6 Z06 it plainly didn't work.

I did it by the books, tried both kinds of silicone housings that came with the kit, with and without the TB spacer... I even took out the filter in the kit to see if that would work.

The symptoms were the same every time I fired it up. Good start up, but when it started to go to idle it would slowly die and then stall out. There was a HUGE delay when I tried to rev it and after about 10 seconds it wouldn't even rev.. then just stalled

I'd really like to get this in tonight and would appreciate any help anyone could offer up.

Thanks!

PS. I put the stock one back in and it works fine.

Cheers (DOMO)

Re: C6 Z06 Vararam intake woes

Are there any common problems I should be aware of- maybe something simple I missed? I've done intakes before-- I can't believe how complicated this is.

I'm really dying for some help guys =(

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Try spraying carb cleaner in different areas that were modified, it'll change rpm's when you find it.

Some have experienced leaks around the spacer.

Hmm that's interesting- I will definitely try that- I know they said something about cleaning the TB too.

The intake didn't work when I didn't use the spacer as well. Should I be pretty liberal with the use of carb cleaner?

Call the Manufacturer they will repsond. They have a web sight to contact. If the car idles OK then stalls on request for more pedal or fuel, maybe your not getting enough air? I'm just guessing since I'm not there to see the car , please call the MFR. Good luck and once it's working you'll be happy. Please post your fix.

Re: C6 Z06 Vararam intake woes

Well its the weekend and this is my Dad's car. I have tons of experience with modding my own cars (Twin turboing my G35, bolt ons and ecus with my jeep srt8)

But this Z06 is something else. I was just wondering if this was a common problem. It sounds like it isn't gettin genough air but it just wasn't making sence-- I wanted to get this in before fathers day =(

Thanks anyway guys.

I was thinking of the Vararam but if this is the case< I'll go with the KB instead. Sorry I couldn't help with any suggestions. It'll be interesting to see what the solution is though. Good luck man.

Re: C6 Z06 Vararam intake woes

I have been enjoying this Vararam intake. One oddity that a friend and mine did on mine was the installation of 2 throttle body spacers. We find that one didn't do the trick on keeping the throttle body cooler it was just as hot as before to the touch, but a second one has seemed to do the trick. Will have to see over the long term how this holds up, but I do have some pictures of it on my site, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - Bradenton, Florida

Re: C6 Z06 Vararam intake woes

Have you guys looked at the AIRAID Intake for the 2006-2008 7.0L Z06?

No cutting or drilling is required, installation is a breeze and the fitment is excellent.

The AIRAID system also comes with a huge air filter that out flows the engine requirements and filters down to 2 microns.

Thanks,
David
