C6 ZO6 Clutch

Today I traded my perfect '03Z for the new C6Z and I'm hoping I don't have clutch problems already. The car was the dealers owner's demo with 4,000 miles, sold as new.

My clutch engages near the end of the petal travel and has a shudder at light throttle/clutch engagement. The rear seems to also shudder and make unusal noises. The dealer says the clutch shudder is the norm. None of my other Z's did this . The clutch may have stuck a few times on the '01, but not shudder as this one does.

I love this car already and not ready to park back at the dealer while they try to figure out what's going on.

Is there any adjustments on the clutch engagement?

I need to do something first thing in the am.

Thanks
bud

Is clutch shudder common on stock clutches with 4,000mi?

I have an 06 Z06 an have not experienced any of the things you describe. Maybe you should take to another dealer and have it checked. The dealer you purchased it from isn't going to admit to anything.

Thanks for the reply.

I figured the service manager was full of BS. It's hard to believe that shuddering clutches are the norm for the new Z.

Any ideas why the engagement point would be so high or near the end of petal travel?

1200 miles on my 06 Z and no such problems here. Of course you know there is a recall on clutches/flywheels out there. There is a window of VIN #s that are affected. Mine is in that group and I don't have any problem yet. My friend at the Corvette factory said it is a real problem and to get the car checked out. Take it for what it's worth. Mine came off the line in the end of Feb.

3,100 miles in 75 days no sign of anything strange with the clutch. Sounds like there may have been some abuse (drag racing) or something. Especially if you are having other driveline anomalies. Good luck...

I have a slight shudder as well under certain conditions - can't tell if it's the powertrain mount tuning or the clutch. Mostly around 1000 RPM engagement. I can avoid it with a few more revs - but it is noticeable. I've had other GM products (02 Z06 included and 2 other c5's) - no trace of shudder.

There is a recall as stated - but mine is allegedly outside the VIN range.

I beleive This clutch has no external adjustment - in fact it may be self-adjusting. I recall working with this type of clutch on the SSR 6.0L Ls2 program- we had some issues with the self-adjust running away on some of them when working with early prototypes. The usual issue was the opposite - you could not get the clutch to disengage.

That's exactly what this clutch does. It's most noticeable trying to get up the driveway and into the garage.

4000 miles and none of these issues. No chattering and engages in the middle of travel.

3700 miles and no clutch issues. engages about 1/2 way. Did have "clunking" noise in rear end. Thanks to the guys on this site, I told the dealer this morning what was probably wrong and they replaced the rear fluid and additive. Fixed the problem.
