I've read several references now to a 5300 RPM limit in 5th gear. Probably somewhere I'll never be, but I am wondering.... how is that possible?
I mean... how does the PCM know what gear the car is in (other than reverse)? Does it? If so, why wasn't GM smart enough to post that on the heads-up (for obvious purposes) like they do on the paddle shift C6?
One sure way to tell.
Put it in 5th, depress clutch, floor it, read tach!
That will not work. When the clutch pedal is is pushed in the pcm treats it as neutral.
The rev limiter is set at redline in nuetral.
The rev limiter cuts fuel but the Electronic Throttle Control (not a speed control) closes the throttle blade and cuts air at the set rpm in each gear.
The speed control also cuts air but in any gear.
The speed control is disabled on all cars.
I have a program that I wrote for my car called service that has the rev limiter set at 3500 in all gears and the speed limiter set at 55 mph.
Haven't had to leave my car with anyone but the program is there if I do.

That's brilliant!

That reminds me..... on the Impala SS forum I am on, there's a guy who programs PCM's (his business) and as a practical joke, when he returned a rental car at the end of a business travel trip, he reprogrammed the PCM to have a 55 mph top speed. I think it was a late model Impala (Wimpala) or Malibu (MaliBOO). That's just too funny!!!

It's a simple matter of MPH vs. RPM to figure what gear a car is in.
Where did you read about the 5300 RPM thing?

Obvious that's a false statement

Any reference to a 5300 rpm "limit" on the C6 Z06 is WRONG.
WRONG WRONG WRONG INCORRECT MISTAKEN WRONG WRONG
Did I mention WRONG?
The C6Z does 198mph in 5th. Drag Limited.
Somewhere around 6200rpm or so is where it hits this speed.
This is all speculation until someone gets the balls to actually drive this car the way it was meant to be driven. I think it's a shame that the people who buy this car don't push it all the way, what's the point? Looks like we need to get some younger guys in this car...

And where is someone going to push it to it's limits.
You think because we have aged by just being stupid. You will hopefully live long enough to have respect for others lives on the road. Also, you should respect the Z, can be a
like a loaded gun, in the wrong hands.:bang:
A time and place for racing, on the track, if not, play nice.
