Center Console Temps

We went on a little 200 mile cruise on the Texas back roads last weekend and just for kicks I put a digital thermometer in the console of the C6Z. 130 degrees! Not a good place to store candy bars, cell phones or anything temperature sensitive. Dynamat, where are you?

Stay tuned for a solution!

My right leg literally roasts driving at anything more than 30 minutes. I cant even let my knee rest against it it gets so hot. I am about ready to put some heat barrier on both sides of the console.

My hip gets warm on a 200 mile drive but I wouldn't say it is unbearable, it is much - much better than the Viper which has the trans on your right and the sidepipes on your left, now that is roasting!!!

It really doesn't seem worse than my C5 before I put on the coated tunnel cover. We all know better than to leave candy, etc. in there - put your candy in the new door pockets

I went to a 'Vette specialty shop here in San Jose yesterday to get my CAGS eliminator ($22 + tax). The guy showed me a C6 heat shield that goes between the exhaust and the torque tube which supposedly shields a ton of heat from the center console and torque tube tunnel. I didn't ask how much it cost. Not sure if it'll bolt to the C6Z, though. Anyone know about this item?

Not my Viper. No cats, no excess heat. Makes all the difference in the world.

We just came back from a 3000 Mile trip to Vegas, Temps in Vegas were in the 75-80, and even sitting in traffic the tunnel heat is not an issue. As a matter of fact it is not a lot warmer than ambient. Inside the Console, granted the temp is probably in the 120 degree range.
They must have routed your exhaust pipes in the wrong spot
as the tunnel temp is no different than any other performance car I,ve owned.

A C5 part (maybe they have them now for C6's). On the underside of the car, there is a metal cover that closes the transmission tunnel (it sits just over the exhaust pipes, just aft of the clutch). Some companies developed a stronger cover (some made of thicker aluminum, some stainless steel) and offered them with a thermal coating to cut the heat transfer from the exhaust pipes upwards. I have one of the stainless steel coated models. It increases body stiffness a tad, but does cut down the heat coming up into the console area.

They said in C&D that the test Z06s were much worse and they put some extra insulation to help with this. Apparently not enough.

OK, I know what you're talking about now. The word "coated" threw me for a minute. I'd prefer to insulate from the bottom rather than tear out the console, carpet, etc.

Problem solved. Bought a ceramic coated stainless steel tunnel plate and installed it this past weekend. Console temp have dropped maybe 40 degrees. Not a cheap fix, but my candy bars are safe. PM me for a link since I'm not sure if they are a sponsor here.

O.K. What is a CAGS and what does the eliminator due and why?
