Checking the Air Filter

I just checked the intake system. The air cleaner was fine. I have 5k miles... I don't see how the scoop works, however...

Scoop just lets outside air into air cleaner area. Not ram air in any way. I think its actually a really good system.

Did you remove the glue in foam from the inside of the air cleaner duct? These have been known to come loose and lodge in the throttle body.

That was one of the reasons I was checking. It's secure and I did not remove it.

Can you give me a quick lesson on how to access the air filter. I read the manual but did not seen clear and I took a quick look but it did not look anything like my 2003 c5Z.

also where is this foam rubber

I would remove them, the heat and the adhesive used do not get along.

I'm aware of the issue with the pad. I'm going to watch it closely. It looked solid so I'll leave it for now.

To remove the filter do the following:

1. Disconnect the two sensors on both sides of the bellows. The driver's side has a clip on the bottom. I used an off set screw driver to remove it. Don't force it, it comes off easy.

2. Loosen the worm clamp on the throttle body (TB).

3. Pull the bellows from the TB

4. Lift/work the whole assy up (just pull up on the the two rubber fasteners and the air duct will come free).

Hope this helps.

Now you got me wondering. I have to remove the entire intake to see this?

Actually, you have to remove the air filter to see it, but in order to remove the air filter, you have to remove the entire intake (the air bridge).

Yeah, you can do that, but I like to check the TB and clean it.

Question
For the drivers side MAF sensor.....
I was able to pull the clip on th ebottom of the electrical plug off but the plug still seemed tight. Did you remove the two offset philps screws...Is that what you used the offest screwdriver for (I was able to pull the light gray bottem clip out with my fingers)

Also I assume that once I lift off the air bridge it will become obvious how to remove the air filter?

and (sorry to be a pita) but after I remove the air filter these other glued in screens will be inside of that plastic 'air bridge' I am now holding?

thanks

I used the offset screw driver only to undue the clip so I could remove the plug. I did not remove the screws you mention.

The owner's manual shows how to remove the filter once the assembly had been removed.

There are no screens. It's a flat paper like sheet glued to the inside, top of the intake assy. You don't even have to remove the fileter to see it. You can see it from the other end.

You live close to me. Maybe we can hook up and I can show you...

Thanks...The owners manual NOW makes sense;; in that the pic in the owners manual is what you see AFTER you remove the entire plastic air filter housing from the engine compartment ..The owners manual fails to tell you to remove the entire air filter housing/bridge

I get as nervious as a virgin groom on the wedding night when I work on this thing (probably has something to do with the 85k it cost to take out of the showroom)

I willl pull the bottom clip off of the MAF sensor and work the electrical connection off

Another forum member and I were talking about this owners manual (that time it was about the encripted instructions concerning programming a third fob) anyway he mentioned that the way the manual was written reminder him of the owners manuals that came with the 70's models Honda motorcycles....sort of in english but missing a few things in the translation. I owned many honda motorcycles in the 70's and you know he was right!

As soon as I find one I am ordering a service manual (just like I did for my 2003 c5 vet)
