You know, I've never done this. What difference do you think it makes other than satisfying our need to be clean?
If "done this" is refreshing your clutch fluid ... Ranger, the drag master, swears by it ... I've read anecdotal posts estimating temps around slave cylinder approaching 400 degrees ... tough on fluids ...
If "done this" is protecting the work area ... to each his own ... but I protect the paint ...

I use Motul RBF 600 in brake and clutch ... it's compatible with other fluids.

Yeah meant refreshing clutch fluid. Makes sense, thanks.
I haven't done anything with clutch fluid (now about 7000 miles).
Twice, I have experienced clutch pedal problems, both times were after/during accelleration practice runs, with tire spinning and hard clutch use. Once the clutch pedal stayed on the foor for 5 or 10 seconds; the other time it stayed halfway out for a couple seconds.
Are these symptoms indicating high fluid temp? and will new fluid prevent them? Thanks!

From what i have read, you have developed gunk in your clutch from high temps with a brake fluid that cant support it very well (GM DOT3). If you start doing this procedure with a new DOT 4 brake fluid, and repeat several times until your fluid stays somewhat clear for a week or so, your clutch issues should go away. Read this entire page and you will understand the concept a lot better.

Try it. Pop the cap off and look. I'll bet the fluid is beyond nasty. If you drive it hard, the fluid goes south really quick. The fluid change only takes a few minutes. And it is pretty cheap to do as well.

Note: Factory fill and specification for the C6 Z06 is GM part # 88958860, Super Duty DOT 4 Clutch and Brake fluid or equivalent, not DOT 3 like the C5 Z06.
I agree and glad you showed your method for others to follow. Very good. Many of us have been doing it for years but never detailed as well as have you. Brake fluid will damage your cars paint for those that don't know that. Thanks. Great job.
I did all of my dirty work yesterday morning in my work truck so I could drive the Vette after lunch for “drive your Vette to work day”. Well, I was able to drive it for about 30 mins until the bottom fell out. Storms all afternoon. Being in construction, when it rains, usually we get shut down. So I had the afternoon off. Decided to change my clutch fluid, and install the Killer Bee.
Here is the clutch fluid change:
All of the stuff needed. DOT 4 brake and clutch fluid(I used NAPA brand), Baster, Rags, and empty water bottle for the old fluid.
I started out by laying rags around the clutch fluid reservoir, as the fluid is corrosive, and the process can be messy.
This is the color of the fluid, after 781 really fun miles in the new Z.
Suck all of the old fluid out with the baster. And be careful, the baster likes to drip a little of the fluid out. Next time, I’ll use a automotive syringe, which is on my list of things to get from Autozone, to lessen the droplets.
Clean out the reservoir with a lint free rag.
Fill with fresh fluid. Fill to about half way between the ‘min’ and ‘max’ marks.
Clean the cap, and replace.
Pump the clutch pedal about 20 to 30 times, and check again. Mine was dark again. Not as dark, but not clear.
So I repeated the process, 3 times in all, and ended up with this.
Like new. A LOT of people swear by this method, to avoid clutch pedal issues. It really only took about 15 minutes, even while shooting the pics. I think it is really good, and easy ‘preventative’ maintenance.
PS. Like I stated earlier, the turkey baster likes to drip a little, so I’m gonna try a large syringe next time.
Did you have any moisture on the rubber boot of the cap? I got it in droplet sizes each replenishment change. My fluid was about the color of yours at 2300 miles. I'm concerned with the moisture or possible boil effect since the cars been sitting on a lift for months during the snow. Please let me know if you were getting moisture on the cap or any others chime in as well with comments of moisture present.
