I did some checking on old posts but it's still not completely understood. In competitive mode traction control is off whats the difference from just turning the traction control off? Does one also control engine programing? I can't feel any difference both scare the crap out of me right now.
In comp. mode active handling remains on. If you are at all scared of the car - run in comp. mode. Everything off really requires close attention!

1. Default on start up has BOTH Traction Control and Active handling ON
2. Competitive Mode selection turns Traction Control OFF but leaves Active handling ON
3. You can select BOTH Traction Control OFF and Active Handling OFF
Traction Control senses mainly rear wheel spin and retards the engine electronically and reduces power (like hitting the rev limiter) in an attempt to regain traction. (Think drag strip)
Active Handling senses individual wheel speed at all 4 corners and steering position along with yaw and pitch sensors. If it determines that you are attempting to place the car in a position for a spin (oversteer condition) it will automatically apply an individual brake on a corner to compensate and bring the car back into line. (Think road course). This will limit lap times and tends to wear out the rear brake pads sooner.
Most new drivers should leave both ON while attempting to learn and familiaize themselves with the car.
- It is generally a good idea to leave both ON, for street driving
- It is almost mandatory to leave both ON in wet conditions both on the street and at the track.
- When first attempting to track the car, AutoX or high speed road corse it is advisable to learn the car first with both ON.
After good familiarization with the operating envelope the driver can switch to Competitive Mode on a dry track, AutoX course and at the Drag Strip.
Seasoned drivers at the track mostly switch both OFF and drive the car like a normal race car in dry conditions. Most switch both ON if the track has any moisture at all.
There are other automatic control operations programmed ito the car which are not selectable.
- There is an anti abuse mode which acts like traction control if the car is pushed too hard.
- There is a Rev Limiter, of course, which can be reprogrammed
- The ABS functions as it should.
- The ABS has an automatic brake proportioning system that controls and varies brake bias real time
- The ABS has an ICE Mode
There are many sensors on the car and in fact a number of computers that anylize and react to data recieved.
Rather than a sensor feeding data to an individual computer on the car, there is a Universal Data Bus architecture. This means a particular sensor feeds its data (throws it on the table, so to speak) onto a universal data bus of which all computers sample real time. Thus allowing each computer to have real time info, select which data is pertainate and select which data it is going to act upon, all real time.
By selecting TC Off, for example you are mearly shutting OFF that portion of the computer.

If you hit the button once traction control comes off strike the button twice in 5 seconds goes into competitive mode which turn traction control off but leave active handling on. If you turn off traction control isn't active handling still on? Don't see a big difference. Does one maybe effect engine management pull timing and tire spin and one just stop rear wheel spin only?
If you punch the button once, both traction control and active handling are turned off. Prepare for the front and rear end of the car to swap if you aren't paying attention. In Comp mode, it will allow wheel spin, and I think a little more drift in a turn, but active handling is on, so you have a better chance of not getting into a spin, though at the cost of slower laptimes if you are an EXPERIENCED track driver. For wanna bes like me, Comp mode is the place to be.

No. The C6 is not like that anymore (unfortunately). I really miss how on my C5 Z06 all I had to do was touch the button once when I got in the car and everything would get turned off and I could actually DRIVE the car instead of just SUGGEST things to it.
In the C6, there are FOUR modes of operation:
(a) sit in the car and drive. every electronic nanny is on.
(b) push the button once. The DIC says "traction control off."
(c) push the button twice. The DIC says "competitive mode."
(d) hold down the button for an eternity (5 seconds). The DIC says "traction control and active handling off."
Mode (d), is what you used to get on the C5 with just a single button press.. but now you have to hold it down for 5 seconds to get there. If you just press the button once, you get a new mode that just says "traction control off" but isn't the same as competitive mode.
The question is.. what's the differenc between traction control off (mode (b)) and competitive mode (mode (c))? My guess would be that both modes have traction control off and active handling on, but that competitive mode gives you a little more leeway before intervening with the active handling.

I can't feel any difference both scare the crap out of me right now.
Now that is funny. When I was building the Ultima I thought that there was no way I could get enough power in the car...wrong. 565 in a car that weighs 1900 is WAY too much. Sounds like the same situation with this car.
I seem to remember having to hold the button down in my 02 z06 in order to get everything off....
No, push it once and you turn off AH/TC (bad move IMO). Hold it down for about 5 seconds and your in Competitive Mode. Which is AH on and TC off. Comp is what I use for Drag Racing. This set up is for C5's. The C6 is different. (see above).
