Yea, ok, so...I am the guy that loaned his brand new (less than 100 miles) '08 Z06 to his buddy for a test drive who, while keeping it under 55 and out of the red, proceeded to disobey admonitions about cold tires, lose the rear wheels under acceleration, and manage to lightly bounce the driver side wheels off a curb before getting the car under control. While no significant damage was done, clearly I can't let the beastie stay scratched.
The dealership wants $3300 to replace the wheels with new. Alternatively, I have located a few places that will do the repair and re-chrome for $750-$1000, however, need to have the wheels off the car for 4-6 weeks. Not ideal.
If I have to pull the trigger on new wheels, so be it. I'd rather the car be perfect than save the cash. I am not willing to go with replicas and don't want to switch stock for HRE's or CCW's just yet. Anyone have other recommendations? Also, any experience with quality repair facilities would also be helpful. The folks I am looking at for the work are out of Dallas, Texas.
Oh and, save your breath, I already know it was a bone-head move.
I have herd the people out of dallas do good work. You might try ebay other wise you will just have to wait 3-4 weeks.
Just my 2 cents the Z is no joke and for some reason people dont respect it when its not there car..I wouldnt let anyone drive my Z and for some reason on a weekly basis I get ask can I drive?
If it were me, and I had the cash, I'd get the new ones from a dealer or wherever. Some dealers may charge less than a local dealer, you should check around on the internet first. Both wheels on the drivers side into the curb? Maybe you should also get the alignment re-done to specs to be safe. I would be sick over this and have to get new OEM wheels. I would ask the driver to split the cost with me, as it was half his fault too.
I appreciate the insights and guidance. I am thinking I will just have the dealer put new wheels on and do the 4-wheel alignment, etc. I haven't driven the car since it was curbed in case any additional, unseen damage may have been done.
Funny thing about my buddy who torqued the car...he is actually a very accomplished collector who owns several very high performance cars himself ('06 Gallardo & '02 Viper). I actually think it is much more of a statement about what a complete BADASS the C6 Z06 is than his lack of ability. Even a guy who is used to performance cars was caught out by the extreme performance of my ride. Kind of cool when you think about it actually.
As far as splitting costs...I hear you, but that's just not my thing. Sure, it was his mistake too, but it was just accidental. He felt bad enough...no need to take it out of his wallet.
Amazing how this thread includes my friend paying for the damage...
Yes, of course he offered to pay. Hell, he probably would have picked me up a whole new car if I had pressed it. He spends more than $80K on an average night at the tables in Vegas.
That isn't the point.
He is a good friend, and not someone who I need to be spiteful or petty with. He (we) f'ed up, the wheels got damaged, and now I want to have them fixed. End of story.
I am looking for help from those who may have insight into options.
Anyway, based on appreciated feedback from those whom seem they know, I will source some OEMs, have them replaced/made perfect, and then go about turning the car into even more of a monster.

Well... First Condolences but not as nasty as a lady running smack into the middle of the drivers door as happened to son of a drag racer.
Four Wheel Alignment: A MUST & ASAP
As far as your friend paying, He did do the damage .. Why Not ? Personal Responsability, what is so amazing about that .. Would you do the same to his car and expect him to pay ? If money is not an issue here just order the new ones, why this thread even ?
Paying for what ? $3300 seems like a lot,in fact is a lot of money for two wheels ? I would shop for a long time. As to repairs for $700 why not ?...especially if you are getting a set of aftermarket wheels anyway, they can be on the car during repairs.
AND Remember: No Smoking within 500 feet of a curb
DV ... late to the thread ... first, welcome to
There's a guy that does work around the Montgomery County Airpark ... does wheel repair for Tony's Corvette Shop (also at Airpark). Haven't had him do any Corvette wheels, but he did an excellent job on my son's Subie WRX wheel.
You can contact Tony's and talk to Tony ... get his opinion. PM me if you can't find the web site.
Tell him you were referred by a G-Burg Vettes member (several here are also Corvette Club of America members, and know Tony and his shop)
HTH ...
All the best with the new ride!

Just because you have the funds doesn't mean you are eager to spend the funds. After all, isn't being money smart how one becomes rich in the first place?
DennyM,
Thank you very much for the insight and guidance. I will be sure to reach out and see what I can work out. I appreciate the connection and will be sure to let you know how it works out.
