Took the c6Z over to the dyno today to get the baseline...boy she laid down a nice 428HP!!!
I'm basically sick to my stomach...85,000.00 for 428RWHP...Wow..what a (censord)turd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put the VaraRam system on..ok here we go and uh...430HP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fell right on her damn face...are you kidding me!!!!
I'm so pissed right now..either all these damn guys are lying abt their baseline results or I jus took 85 Grand and through it out the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
played w/the tunning and it went to 451..VaraRam said "well you gotta put 28 to 30 miles and you'll see the performance pick up..so back to Tampa is 50+..got hm and tested her out...
FLOP!!!! I'm so ahead of this damn slow car..barely turns the tires over in 2nd..I'm like..uhhhh come on..come on...
"Crack-the-whip"!!!!
VaraRam killed the car even further..jus went Rich...
Help!!!!!
Why is this car so low stock...428????????????
Andy
Oh..wanted to show my buddy what a real Z felt like..SO I PULLED OUT THE C5 W/402 STROKER AND LIT THE DRAG RAIDIALS UP DOWN THE ROAD...

Disregard the chassis dyno, as it is meaningless. I GUARANTEE your LS7 makes between 505 and 508 BHP when tested using the J1349 standard. As you know, what it makes on a chassis dyno is dependent on a wide variety of factors, all of which are variables.

Not sure what the problem here is.

Thanks "No Doubt" sorry if I'm jumping the gun so to speak...but I felt its jus low...
Mark,
You have a crystal ball or something??? That's exactly what the tuner said..your "right in the ball park, so don't panic ref the 15% driveline loss...
I jus thought of everybody dyno'ing higher on their bone stock Z's..were talking SAE RWHP...
Andy
Put it this way: Compare an F-15 to a WWI era Sopwith Camel. Your car is the former. It's all relative. Now, see why you feel better?
ps: the Sopwith does have a much better turn radius, however, but I digress.
Chassis dyno numbers are dependent on all of those unnamed variables I mentioned. Given the right atmospheric conditions, your car will make more or less power. And it will vary from day to day and even run to run. Throw in a few dyno tricks and you can end up with who knows what numbers.
YOu have the VaraRam, correct? Did you remove the sock? I had teh same problems until I removed the sock.....

First of all, I completely disagree with NoDoubt that a chassis dyno is 100% worthless. I won't even get into that discussion here.
Secondly, yes Andy, your bonestock dyno numbers do appear to be somewhat lower than most bonestock dyno runs have shown for other C6Z owners's. I agree with others that this is not something to panic about but it might be worth exploring further.
If it were me, I'd probably take it to another dyno and do a couple of passes just to see if the settings or the way it was done at the original dyno were a bit off. Human error is always a possibility.
As for the dyno after the Vararam install, I'm not surprised at all that you only picked up minimal gains if no tuning was done. You know as well as anyone that just increasing the air volume without accounting for it by tuning is not gonna give you a true pic of it's value.
My C6Z is up to 470+rwhp with no mods at all (except tuning). That just goes to show you the value of a good tune.
If it were me, I'd turn someone loose on my Z with an HP Tuner and a good working knowledge of what their doing and let them go to town.
ONLY THEN, if you still get sucky dyno numbers...it's time to panic....or at least be pissed off.

The C6Z pulls timing like crazy when hot... those numbers are not out of line. The cars have been shown to make much larger numbers when cooled down.
Also the torque management is very invasive... most likely what you're feeling in 2nd gear. Get a proper tune to dial out the TM and re-dyno the car cooler.
Too many people get caught up in peak numbers on the dyno and don't pay attention to where the car is producing the power. It's all about area under the curve where the car uses it's power.
I just think that certain cars come from the factory as freaks. This means that the tolerances of the parts and alignment of peripherals allows the car to make more power. However, this can work the other way. You probably have experienced where the "canned" tune didn't work well with your OEM characteristics. Sounds like you got it all resolved with the tune and such.
I was lucky enough to have a car that came well matched. It made over 466 RWHP at 500 miles on the clock.
