It shouldn't grind at all. Can you actually hear teeth grinding like they're going to break? Anything like that I would take it to the dealer just to have it checked.

Welcome to the site.

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

If this is grinding and not just some bogging due to low rpms when shifting take back to the dealer there is a problem. You said your trying to get the hang of it? If your not experienced w/ a clutch system you may be bogging it down w/ too low of an rpm and then load after shifting. That makes a noise but not grinding. If this is the case have someone who is familiar w/ a clutch drive it , observe , and then see if the noise is there. Good luck

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

I have an 08 Z as well. The shift from first to second is very notchy. Not a problem whatsoever - just typical of a hi-po tranny with that tremec mechanism. I think you may be mistaking the notchiness for grinding.

The 08 shifter is much more stiff than pre-08 Z's and has very delineated gates, with a quite stiff set of bushings in the mechanism making the first to second shift the notchiness I have ever felt but still nowhere near grinding or anything bad at all.

If it's just the synch they can do that pretty easily. Keep us posted.

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

I noticed mine does this a little bit as well and I have around 200 miles on it now. I will be at Quality Motorsports tomorrow so I will let Pat or luke drive it and make sure it is not just me.

Let me know how yours turns out if you take it to the dealer.

No offense, but you've got 200 miles on the thing and you're "powershifting" it already??? I think that has something to do with your problems... I think the trans in these things is notchy in general, as it's felt like that in the few that I've driven. After all, these things have a lot of spinning metal to match RPMs and mesh during a shift. It'll never shift like a BMW manual, but once you get the hang of the timing of shifts & the gates it's fine.

Once the car is broken in, the notchiness can be reduced somewhat by using better fluid in the manual trans & making sure that it's warmed up before pushing it.

How many miles did it have on it when you got it? It's really possible do to your location someone took it for a joy ride before you got it and ground the synchros. I'd ASAP, take it back to the dealership it's only going to get worse and will eventually effect other gears if something has been damaged.

Try looking at the top tool bar on the web sight above under SEARCH. Type grinding gears etc. until you see something. In any event take it back to the dealership.
Good Luck.

ok ,,, what i meant by saying powershiting is the opposite of slow shifting ,,, when i shift very slowly its ok ,,, when i speed up the shift lill bit it grinds ,,, not like i abused the car ,,, but isnt GM claim is that u take it from the showroom to the track ,,,

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

Based on your latest post I bet someone took it for a 5k clutch drop & powershifted it around the lot before you bought it... unless it just was assembled incorrectly. I've heard quite a few sales guys talking about racing these things around when they can. When I bought mine, I didn't even let them drive it to the gas station to fill 'er up for me. I drove it there for them, but mine had 8 miles so it could have had a few "runs" around the block by sales guys or transporters. Good luck...

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

I was at a dealership just last week and noticed a 08 yellow Z under the dealers front awning. On further inspection the two passenger side chrome wheels had been "curbed".
Anyway, what should the mileage show when they are unloaded at the dealership?? The reason I ask is if I find or order one and are there any other things to look for. I guess the best thing is to ante up and take the NCM delivery.

If you have ordered a car, the average is about 6-9 miles. They do a quick dyno type run in after completion at the plant then ship them off. I'd imagine they may pick up a 1-2 miles tops once they are detailed at the dealership before the customer gets the car. They are supposed to check certain fluids, suspension, tires, safety stuff etc. Seems most deliveries have 6-9 miles on average. I had one with 15 miles on it.

New corvettes laying around a dealership that are used or test driven can have a lot of miles on them. Maybe that happen to the yellow one you spoke of. Someone took it for a test drive. Stay away from that dealer too. Any place that won't replace a set of shot wheels on a $$$ vehicle isn't worth buying from. Happy hunting.

Re: help !! my new 08 zo6 300 miles Gear problem

Firstly, that sucks, and I hope you get through this with a perfect car eventually...

Well, this is just my second post, but I must disagree with the jist so far...A transmission should not break under almost any condition after less than 500 miles! No break-in should be necessary for a transmission, imho.

I have a colleague who has an 07 C6 that had a bad tremac (pretty much the same as the Z06's, right?) with 1200 miles on it. It was making noise in every gear. It was eventually replaced by GM, probably with the 08 because it's better than ever now.

See other posts on here, I think they may have a bad batch of tremacs out there, who knows?

I'd fight for a new tranny, and go up the chain if needed (regional mnger).

Please re-post what happens, and good luck.
