I agree the car is meant to be tracked but if you totaled the car at the track(which can happen and this risk is the reason insurance can't be bought while racing a car) can those of you that said you would track the car really afford to keep paying the $600-$800 a month for a car you don't have for X number of years? or pay $70k again to replace the car you totaled?
If I get a C6Z06 I would have no fear of tracking it.GM has done such a good job on the active handling on our cars that you have to push really hard to upset the car of course the C6Z has 500 HP so who knows!
as far as repairing a wrecked Z, there are people who can repair anything but a bent frame would be the stopping point for me. All the other stuff is repairable.I didn't say it would be free
I have a problem with people who buy cars and stick them away in a garage and never drive them, especiallly how they were intended to be driven.
I'm probably in the minority on this but if I had a McLaren F1,Enzo,Ford GT,C6Z or what have you i would be out driving them all the time thats what they were built for.
Thomasr, I agree with you. My 03 Z06 has 40,000 miles on it. Cars are ent to use and have fun with.
In the late 70's and early 80's when I was racing Corvettes the first thing we did was get new frames and straighten them, weld them, change the pickup points, etc. There will be plenty of people to fix frames. If you track them, some will get bent and fixed!
Kinda sad that lots of these neat new Corvette Hot rods are gonna sit in a climate controlled inviroment and never turn a wheel in kick ass fun.
Not sad at all. It will allow me to buy a low mileage used one in about 2-3 years for around 50k. So all of you guys with black C6Z's...don't drive them. Keep them in the garage and only drive them on Sundays and change the oil weekly

No, now realy sad, who will give you back 2 years of your life back? As time waits for NO ONE. We all have just so many clicks on the timer. Enjoy, its later than you think. And my thoughts are still owning the ultimate Corvette is a must have deal. NOW, as today is a fact and tomorrow is not.
Why pay for all that HP and not use it? You sure as hell can't use it on the street, safely. :bmad: The only real reason to buy one is to do track days and if you can't afford to wreck it you shouldn't own it.A lot of track days are covered by insuance if it's a driving school.Driving schools make you a better driver. The track is safer than the freeway anyway, there are no lanes, trucks, minivans, old people,or best of all State Patrol.Instead you have cornerworkers, crash and rescue, driving instructors, mechanics and friends. How many times do you inspect your car, before you go on the freeway?I have found a lot of things on my pre-track inspections. The Z06 was built for speed and the only sane place to do it is on the track, otherwise, buy a conv.or a pace car. It's sad a lot of these cars will be bought by posers who only want to show off the badge on the side.
Man does this dud have a narrow view of reality. It takes all kinds, I guess.
Went to Bondurants. They improved my driving. I drove their car! Even paying for the extra insurance I would have been 6k out-of-pocket had I stuffed it. Unless you really try something beyond reason, the active handling will save you. Once the tires are warm the Corvette is a dream to drive on the track. There are options for those who want the "experience" but don't want to track their own car.
Hey guys...I am 73 so cut me some slack. I have owned Corvettes since 1957.
The last one I bought new June 19th 2012. A Carbon Limited Edition, #148, with 8 miles on it.
At my age I will not track this car. My wife and I enjoy the kick ass fun of just owning this beautiful car. It doesn't sit in the garage. We drive to cars shows and other car related events. It's a attention getter and I have meant a lot of Corvette enthusiasts and other interesting individuals. Not the same fun as you guys have tracking yours but I have moved on and some day you will have arrived also. Have fun and enjoy your time tracking this wonderful car.
I don't believe you need to "track" your Corvette to enjoy it. That aside, it's had to believe what a great car the Corvette is until you can push it in a safe environment. At Bondurants they just add supportive sets (what an amazing difference that makes...) and race brake pads and fluid and that's about it. It was a great move on Corvette's part to include drivers school with purchase.
I took my 2012 Centennial Z06 to Laguna Seca this past summer for track day. Had a blast, but I am not sure if I'll do it again. I am in my 60s and have owed a Corvette since I was in my early 30s but I though of the track day as a "bucket list" thing. But, I may do it again as I had such a blast and the car was totally awesome.
I just bought a 2007 red z06 with 75k miles for $33,000 in excellent condition and plan to put DRM bilsteins on it and track it at Mid America Motorplex in Pacific Jxn Iowa next summer. My insurance will cover the track events, (and my insurance is cheaper than my 2011 minivan!). Need to take one orientation course on a friday for $175 and then I can race any Friday all day for $100 a day for as many 15 minute sessions as I please. The man who built this 2.3 mile track made wide grass shoulders with no concrete embankments to hit, so if you spin off, it is rare that the car gets damaged. I will let everyone know how it goes next summer.
