I have been dying to post my most intense install on my 07 zo6; well, i put the carbon fiber splitter on my car... I am glad i did! but I had to put the high speed brace on because the guy tells me its not necessary unless you drive faster than 170mph.... well obviously i am in need of the high speed brace! well the brace had to go on after you take the nose cone off the rocket ship. Anyone knows i usually pay to have that type of stuff done, not cause i am to good but because i am lazy and feel more comfortable with an experienced person doing something like this..... see picture of nose removed...ugh! "I would rather drive a railroad spike through my nut sack than do this!" I did it ...it was not that bad. I cannot wait to try out the high speed brace...... HELL YEAH WE STILL BUILD ROCKETS!....I love that Corvette Commercial!
funny thing my wife sees the pic and she does not mention the nose off the front of my 80K car but she jumped my a$$ because i used one of our blankets from the theater room to put the nose on while working!
I like the look but as soon as I installed one, I'd hit something and break it off. I just replaced the plastic one on my Z and it was $163 with discount. I can imagine how much the ZR1 is.
My eyes are still tearing thinking about the railroad spike. My splitter is about ground down to the bumper. Where can I get a good deal on a nice aftermarket one? I'm sure I would trash a carbon one.
It is not a bad job; about 2 hours if you have never removed your nose before, but it is only about a 45 minute job start to finish. I highly suggest to google C6 front nose removal and several will come up providing very good direction (sorry did not save mine). Freakiest part is pulling up on nose where it meets headlight.."pull straight-up and it is hard" and it will come off and will push back in like butter.
I believe the high speed brace was recommended if you drive faster than 140mph; the high speed brace goes along the front of the nose area and lines up with the holes that the CF splitter screws into normally (the brace is made of a composite material and is only a 3rd of the length of the splitter, it centers at the nose); you remove the clips and actually slip them onto the high speed brace portion and they match up real nice; the way the brace sits into the nose it truly stiffens the nose for the splitter to actually do the job correctly. There is no way to install high speed brace without taking nose off..... dont waist time trying as I was told you could and that is not going to happen....
The splitter really looks nice; I drive my car and can tell how it has improved performance on high speed curves that I visit reguarly and with the APR or APC rear spoiler there are long curves that I used to get 1.4G at 90MPH that i can now run 113mph @ 1.6G.; before the tire squall was going to break loose...very on the edge; this is mostly due to the rear spoiler, however there is a triple S that runs long and can get 160+ and since the front splitter...the nose is just planted very comfortably, and when I did not have it was..... not so comfortable and more pushy had to back out and feather throttle more.... just saying.
I just got my Z yesterday and putting one of these on was one of the first mods I was planning on but alas, the plain one drags badly just getting into my driveway. I'd hate to think what one of these would do. I even tried driving in at an angle etc. no go... I will be replacing my stock Z06 spoiler annually it looks like.
I think a cone would possibly roll up under and be an issue; as far as hitting a cone and busting the carbon fiber splitter, I do not think would be as much of an issue as possible damage to the way it bolts onto nose.
I just put a CF splitter on my black Z, I found a deal for 700 dollars, but it had been gouged out from rocks and such, painted it black, left the carbon fiber on the flat pieces showing, and dang it looks awesome;lots and lots better than I thought it would, matches the black paint of my Z perfectly; just food for thought.
