While Running in the HPDE down at VIR my heads up display showed the imfamous "check gauges" while running about 140 down the frontstrech. Looked down and what did i see.. about 5lbs of oil pressure! Uh oh....
So after limping around the track and bunching up the field. i finally made it back to pit road. While at idle it had 0-2lbs of oil pressure.
So, long story short the car has been taken back to the dealership. Hooked up to a mechanical gauge, and has been determined that the bottem end has good oil pressure. But, the top does not. No spun main bearings. No cam bearing spun either. The motor is currently out of the car and in pieces. The dealership has been on the horn all day long with GM and they are puzzled aswell.
No engine modifications have been done. just intake, headers, tune. Thankfully this work is going to be coverd by warrenty. But from what we have heard. A new engine might be on its way.
anyone had any problem like this? Trying to get it fixed before Road America in August
P.S. if you were in the blue group first thing tuesday morning and saw a slow yellow z.... sorry! Half a lap eariler i passed a new zr1. felt great till this happend.

Wow, I would want the whole new motor. I remember someone posting some other LS7 disasters. They suspected there were more than GM was letting out based on the amount he had heard of in his circle. I hope as we all start getting some REAL miles on this engine it is'nt a problem motor in regards to longevity. I raised this issue a while ago because I believe from what I see most guys are not putting big miles on the LS7, like alot of us did on the LS6. I'm guilty too, I'm only at about 10,000. When I asked a while ago the highest mileage LS7 then was I think 34000. I asked then because of the rocker issues and roller bearings. Please let us know what they determine. Good luck Jim

I hope so for your sake. Intake, headers and a tune could be considered engine modifications for warranty purposes, especially when looking at an engine replacement. If the GM zone rep comes around for a pre-replacement inspection and picks up on the tune, you may be out of luck. It's on their checklist.
I know in the Subaru world thin oil was being blamed for spun bearings...If you're over your grief, can you post some info on the oil type, wt, temp, etc? To help us prevent this on our cars?
I had exactly the same experience in my '08 ZO6, also at VIR, during a Memorial Day DE. When the dealer folks did their initial inspection, they said they couldn't be sure without tearing it down, but major engine damage was possible. Well, no kidding, it was knocking, and no oil pressure, so I'm sure a main bearing was gone. I told them not to touch it, and that I wanted a new engine installed at the factory, which is what happened. The whole process took about a month. Seems there is now a dedicated team that does nothing but replace LS7 motors, guess that's both the good and bad news! The end result was totally acceptable, but something is going on with these motors.
