Nav/CD/MP3 Player question

Does anyone else have problems with their CD player not recognizing .mp3s on a disk that was burned at home? I checked the properties and the disk was burned in "Mode 1" as suggested but my player will either repeat songs (even though it wasn't burned in repetition) or simply not recognize all the songs on the disk. They won't even show up on the file listing. Had it in for service yesterday but they told me to make sure disks were burned in "Mode 1", which they are. Is there a TSB or anything out for a fix? I just want to explore all options prior to asking the dealer to swap out the unit. Thanks in advance.

(BTW, all the songs show up normal when the same disk in playing in a computer).

Re: Nav/CD/MP3 Player question

My CD will occasionally repeat songs on an MP3 disc, plus if you go to the song track listing and pick a song, it'll choose the one it wants not the one I picked. The disc seems to work fine in my truck which is a 2007 GMC 2500HD with the 6 CD changer....and actually the factory sound system in my truck sounds better. You would think for $1800 this system would sound much better then one in a pick up 1/2 the price of the Vette.

OK...so I'm not the only one who's seeing this problem. Thanks. I will see what the dealer does to resolve this.

Re: Nav/CD/MP3 Player question

sometimes there are reprograming things that can be done at the dealership that can change the operation, and make it respond better to mp3's

Song titles can't exceed 31 characters, including spaces and file extension. The song filename is used to create the MP3 playlist on the disk itself. The ID3 tag is used to display the album, artist and track info on the nav screen.

First, use MP3 tagging software (iTunes, WMPlayer or Tag&Rename, etc) and make sure the v1 and v2 ID3 tags are the same.

Then, with Nero Burning ROM (don't use the Wizards in Nero Express because they don't give enough ISO-level control):

On the "New Compilation" screen select type "CD" (if not already).

Choose "CD-Rom (ISO)".

On the tabs...

Multisession:

"No Multisession"

ISO:

"Data Mode" - Mode 1

"File System" - "ISO 9660 Only"

"Filename Length": - "Max of 31 chars (Level 2)"

"Character Set" - "ISO 9660 (standard ISO CD ROM)"

"Relax Restrictions" - check boxes are unchecked.

Burn:

Check the "Finalize CD (No further writing possible)" checkbox

The other tabs ("Label", etc.) are unimportant.

Click on "New" to create the new compilation, then drag and drop the relevant MP3s/Folders onto the CD. Notice that all spaces and '-' marks in the folder/song titles convert to underscores, but this doesn't affect how the song titles will appear on the Nav screen since it uses ID3 tags.

Click the "Burn" icon to burn the CD.

Thanks for all the tips. I will try the detailed steps that No Doubt suggested...thank you very much for that BTW. Sounds promising. Appreciate it.

I'm one of the oddballs that uses a Mac. On iTunes I couldn't find any of the parameters you listed above. I've used iTunes to burn my MP3 CDs. I've never had any problem in 07 GMC pickup with the 6 CD changer. in fact, the CDs I've used in Z came from my truck. You would figure that all GM head units would use the same type of programming / controlling of the CD player, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

I'm not much of computer guy, but should I use a different type of CD burning program other than iTunes?

Re: Nav/CD/MP3 Player question

I've been using the method that "NO Doubt" suggested and it works. I use Nero.
Give that a try.
