oberservation while washing the car

Most of us know about the pebbles which seems to keep getting stuck between the panel just under the "GM" emblem. While washing the car to day, I just sprayed the seam and noticed that there were lots of debris that were coming out of the seam. I just kept spraying it for about a minute until the debris stopped. After moving and drying the car, I noticed that there were lots of pebbles that were left behind where the car did sit. Thought it was interesting how much junk actually gets stuck in that panel.

Same observation here. Some time ago I saw a posting someplace detailing a way to insert some foam insulation strips behind the inner panel of the rear fender to seal the cavity and prevent stuff from getting in there...but don't remember where I saw it. Maybe a search will turn it up. For now I just use water pressure, too.

Re: oberservation while washing the car

Same here, it looked as though I had been playing Dune Buggy or something. I've never had another vehicle that collected so much junk in the mentioned area. I haven't removed either panel yet but I'm thinking about some fix that makes longterm sense.

This has happened with all on hard surface driving. No gravel roads or anything?

This did not happen with my 02 Z or any other Corvette that I have owned. However it seems as though each had its' own problems?

Re: oberservation while washing the car

Since our fun got ruined Here's the info

Stop The Rocks = Prevent rocks from entering the rear wheel openings and damaging your paint.

This DIY is designed to stop the dirt and rocks that lodge in the rear fender seam just in front of the rear tire. They are on your car, just go out and look. My main concern is that when detailing or washing the car, one drops into the cloth or wash mitt and I end up dragging a stone across my paint. It appears the problem is due to a large gap in the inner fender liner which allows debris off the tire to enter the inner fender. This is how I fixed it for $5.

I pointed it out to the plant manager when I was at Carlisle, that even a new Z06 with 400 miles had all rocks in the seam. He did not seam to care, and that Z06 was driven by Dave Hill

Press the sticky side in first towards the fender

That's good stuff. When you slide the fender out, does it tend to drag the pebbles across the paint?

Re: oberservation while washing the car

Let's bring this to the top since I now own a C6. It seems to be a very good mod. How is it working out Paul?
