Hey I just picked up a 07 Z06 with 600 miles on it. The car is going to maybe put on 200 miles from now till february and the break in oil change isn't going to be done till 1200 miles.
My question is should I go ahead and have the oil changed now seeing as how it is probably a year to two years old. And then change the oil again at 1200. Or should I just wait till 1200 miles.
Either way you would probably be ok, but if it was my car I would change the oil. I figure fresh oil is cheap insurance and it is for sure not going to hurt anything. I'm pretty picky about oil so I pay attention to miles the oil has AND how long the oil has been in the engine...oil does break down and age (it gets way more detailed/technical than that, but I'm sure someone with way more knowledge will jumb in). I never hit the mile mark for changing oil, but I usually change mine every 6 months give or take...usually when it starts getting real cold and when it starts getting real hot outside. Again, that is probably excessive.

Since the car has very low miles on it you can probably wait and change the oil at 1,000 - 1,200 mi.
If it had more than 2,500 miles I would have recommend changing the oil now as harmful acids have had a chance to build up
I would also consider changing to a Synthetic ATF for the Tranny and a Synthetic Gear Lube for the Diff. at 1,000 mi too, after the gear faces and Diff clutches have burnished in.
I recommend either AMSOIL or Mobil 1 products for all of the above.
Then changing the synthetic oil at every, 4,000 mi, 6 months or 50% oil life, whichever comes first.
I don't think it has been changed at all so I am going to go ahead and change it.
If you aren't sure, I'd change it as well. Keep in mind that both GM and most major oil companies (AMSOIL included) recommend oil changes at least annually independent of mileage. The purpose for this recommendation is not that the oil will have "broken down", but that impurities such as moisture, combustion byproducts, wear metals, etc build up over time, some of which are independent of mileage.

Hi,
Coming from Germany, I was quite surprised when I saw the differences in Oil Change Intervals between the States and Germany for the same oils/cars/manufacturers!
Here it's recommended to have around 5000 mls intervals, whereas in Germany, the manufacturers even go up to 12,500 to 19,000 mls for the same oils as they are used here in the States...
...but there is also a huge difference in oil prices - when I pay her for my Z06 $100 for an Oil Change/Inspection, in Germany, I pay around $35 for one quart of oil...
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????

That's people drinking the Jiffy Lube Kool Aid ... 3k mile change intervals.
For "normal" driving and "normal" cars ... if people followed the maker's recommendations ... should be 7.5k mi or more interval - or based on oil life indicator (commonly up to 12k miles)
But ... we on this Forum are not "normal" :pp: ... so the more anal of us err on the side of more frequent changes ... and many do it themselves ... leading to many posts on the long-running thread "Lifting for Oil Changes" ... :bang:

I know what you mean. My buddies that drive German cars won't even consider changing out their oil until they reach 10k or 15k miles.
My dad took the car in today and they changed the oil. They quoted him on the phone $75 and when he went to pay they charged him it was $115 but whatever you cant do much about it.
