only hit 131 in the '02 so far. I hit 145 in my 97 TA WS6. The TA felt like it was going to go airborne. THe Z felt firmly planted. It's hard to find a spot in NJ to really push the envelope before finding traffic or one of NJ's finest.

Welcome to the forum, Im assuming youre in Germany? Yeah 186 in the audi is nice, the link you provided is an audio link only though.
I did all of my top end runs in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, the one with the busa I only used 1/2 of a mile in which I entered the straight from a bend at 100mph in 3rd gear. I didnt use the full length of the straight, I untucked at 170mph before the length of 1/2 mile.
Would be nice to see what I couldve hit with the TA on a good stretch of autobahn, it was still pulling in 6th (3.73's) but I ran out of road. Scary thing was that that the front end got instable at that speed.
I was concerned and got underneath the car afterward, to find that my ILE front swaybar wasnt even attached to the passenger side a-arm. I was running a set of PA racing chromoly a-arms in conjunction with their k member. It was a good way to drop 40 lbs from the front of the car, but chromoly is brittle and the mounting tab on the arm where the sway bar endlink snapped. So basically I went 180 with no front swaybar
Ever since then I usually do a quick inspection of my tires, and chassis before I plan on playing around.
I did the 165 run with the Z with a 200 lb passenger, dont think it made that much of a difference. The 170mph run had a slight uphill incline to it, didnt matter the car wouldve ran out of steam in 6th anyways.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Yeah, I'm in Germany. It's a shame that I couldn't enjoy a car like the Z06 here, but it just isn't practical. When it all adds up, cost of ownership would be about twice of what it is in the US, if not more.
However, after driving in Germany for a few years, my license won't last long when I get back to the US in a year or two.
Top speed without a sway bar?!?! Yikes!
It's "interesting" enough when everything is fully functional.
but it would be nice to get out on the autobahn and let it hang out without fear of the police...of course there are other things to be careful of...but it certainly would be nice to cruise and not worry....

Why couldnt you enjoy a car like a C5 Z in Europe? If youre concerned about fuel economy, its a common misconception that the Z has poor fuel economy given the displacement and power of the motor.
Completely stock a C5 Z will manage 30 mpg on the freeway or 13.2 KPL if your unfamiliar with english. At 65 mph a C5 Z's motor is spinning at 1500 rpm in 6th. I think it has better fuel economy that not only a 997 T, but even the carrera S that has a mere 300 hp. Its all about the RPM of the motor in the final gear.
Im 26 with a few tickets and manage a 6th month premium for $850.
You can get your hands on used stock C5 Z for $30k now. If you look a built one with maybe a blower, or motor work and drivetrain stuff for $35k+.
In my opinion, and the vast majority of C5 owners the C5 is much more easy on the eyes than the smiley face C6. I cant get over the front end. I do love the performance/price of the new Z, and would be willing to live with the silly front end. But I would never get a base model C6, nor trade my C5 for one.
One thing that I love about my car that cant be duplicated by a flat 6 is the sound of a V8. I watched C6 R's, C5 R's, porsche 996's, vipers, and panoz esperante's duke it out at Infineon for a round of Le Mans. The Panoz and the vettes sound friggin incredible! The same couldnt be said for the snake or the flat 6.
plz dont do 198 on us roads. its not u i give a S about its the other people. anyhoo, enough tree huggin, on the strip though hopefully ill do 125-128 this friday at capitol raceway in md were me and some buddies have rented the track for 8 hours. should be able to get 15-20 runs in with video. ill post then...
I have heard there will be at least a couple new Zs at the next Silver State Classic. I don't know if they will be set up for
the "Unlimited" class or not?
I have achieved 168 (GPS) at the Silver State in my 01' Z06.
And there was some left, I belive my car can and will do 180 plus on some of those straights. (some are upto 14 miles long)
I have a video of me hitting a bird at 150 mph during one of these events, if it had been a cow, deer, dog, or? It would have been all over!
Things can go real wrong real fast at these speeds, so the Silver State Classic is the best place I know of to attempt these speeds. It is organized, sanctioned by NV. and there are safety and emergency crews standing by.
