Hi Guys, I've been reading your forum for sometime now but have never participated. Having owned 3 corvettes in the past I to am eager to own a new Z06 but will not pay over MSRP.
Recently, I talked to a Chevrolet Rep. I let him know how disapointed I am with the current pricing of the Z06. I let him know that by the dealerships charging 10 to 30 thousand over MSRP they are actually driving away their loyal customers. He let me know that this is the reverse of what they are trying to do. Everybody knows Chevrolet sales are in the toilet and they need their loyal customers to stick with them. He said that although the dealers own the cars after delivery, and they can charge what they want, they are actually hurting sales and chevy loyalty in the long run. He also told me that Chevrolet does have some leverage as far as pricing. If they feel that overall sales are being hurt they can put pressure on to keep pricing under control, maybe by changing the dealership allocation of Z06's. He has already recieved many complaints about this but for it to make a difference they need many more complaints. If you feel strongly about this call Chevrolet Customer Assistance between 8AM and 11PM Eastern at 1-800-222-1020 and register your complaint. Gary
With the Z06 invoice from GM at about $57,000.00 and an MSRP at $65,8000 with destination charges many sent in complaints prior to the cars release to keep the prices down.
As far back as April GM got thousands of letters as this sight and others encouraged members to write to GM and ask them to keep the prices down. You see the results.
Keep your C5 Z06's because that's where a lot of buyers are going to, USED C5 Z06's.
Sorry, but my past experiences with Chevrolet Customer Assistance have been somewhat less than satisfactory; they will--if pressed--tell you that they have no real control over "their" dealers! While I really doubt that in its entirety, it lets you know that in reality you are on your own and that Chevrolet/GM is not interested in you nor your problem--it is between you and the dealer. That is why have such a disparity with service and warranty work amongst dealers; it is truly "buyer beware" unless you have a relationship with the dealer thru management, sales and/or service or happen to luck out with the occasional dealer that believes in doing the "right thing".
Just be patient. I'm figuring 6 months from now, the over-pricing will be done. If a dealer has suckers willing to pay an extra $15,000, they'd be silly not to. I know my dealership sold a couple for about $80K in less than a day or so. When it gets to the point where dealers are having them in stock for more than a day or two, the price will drop. The clowns buying them now for $80K probably just bought an Xbox 360 on Ebay for $800
I ask you, how much is a used 2006 Z06 worth with 3000 miles on it? That will be soon for many.
How much is a used C5 Z06 worth with 3000 miles on it?
Do the math. The C6 Z06's will come down but more new first time Z06 buyers are gravitating towards the used low milage
C5's LS6 405 hp cars for the value. For $30,000.00 less. with a warranty too. Be patient. Many also still like that Z06 hard top look over a coupe.

ive been checking the value of my z06. its holding its value very nicely thank you very much. i too prefer the look of the hard top over the coupe. doesnt mean i will not buy the new z06. just means i will wait until i get a good deal. that means not only not paying over sticker but paying under sticker. tiiiime. is on my side. yes it is.
First, welcome to , Gary.
I'm not in and don't expect to be in the $70K plus car market anytime soon. I like my C5Z, and after putting 35 easy miles on a friend's C6Z and being very impressed with its power and refinement, I'm just fine in my "rough around the edges" Z for a while. Hell, I've got a ways to go to be as good as the car is!
Fairly high volume dealer I know is marking new Z's at what the general buying market will bear; however, for customers who have bought a Corvette there, it's MSRP (at some future date).
My sense is that a significant number of early Z purchases are by folks new to the Corvette and the C5Z ... and in many cases either expecting the car to transform them into drivers (Not!), or never experiencing what the Z can give them.
