*EDIT* Pics posted below in this thread
Well as anyone who lives in NY, NJ or PA knows, yesterday was NOT the day to pick up a new high performance sports car - or any new car for that matter, but because of time constraints I needed to do it this weekend, so my first drive report will focus on how the new Z handles in near hurricane like conditions.
We drove from NY to Atlantic City Friday night and what was normally a 3 hour drive was 5 in the rain. I stopped in at Kerbeck just as they were closing and took a peek at the car, just beautiful! Of course I didn't sleep very much after that vision!
I had wanted Victory Red but my wife talked me into Lemans Blue and it is truely beautiful color combination for this car!
Got there promptly at 9AM and after an hour something of signing papers and having Dave go through all the systems and nav controls (thanks much) we were on our way home.
WARNING TO ANYONE PICKING UP THEIR Z AT KERBECK.
When you leave the lot via the back driveway you need to approach the exit at a crawl and cross the driveway threshold at an angle or you WILL scrape the shit out of the chin spoiler like I did!!!
The entire drive home it was teaming rain which did not let up once. At the start I had a big pucker factor and concern about those wide tires causing serious hydroplaning.
Suprise Suprise, this thing handles the bad (really bad) weather with no problem at all. Smooth and stable all all bad weather speeds. We ran the 180 mile distance at 55 to 75 all the way.
Last summer I drove an 03 Viper in bad weather and it was the OMG (oh my god) ride of a lifetime. I was kind of expecting that same situation here, but it is not the case at all with the new Z.
Obviously I did not get on it, but was super impressed with the power and integration of the whole package. Noise was not a factor, wet handling is EXCELLENT and the only time I was even concerned was some slight hydroplaning when we encountered deep standing water.
It was a long 4 hour drive and I did start to notice trans tunnel heat on my right hip about 2 hours in, not as bad as the viper but certainly there.
As others have mentioned the clutch does feel a little strange but the shifter and trans are smooth as silk.
Got her home and in the new garage, what a mess. That front egg crate grill collects leaves like crazy.
She is all clean now but looks like we are going to get rain every day this week Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
