I peruse this forum to connect with other people that are typically interesting and knowledgeable. Every day that I’m able to check-in, I learn something new. In the process, I hope that every once in a while I am able to provide some insight that is valuable to others.

So, while I know better than to respond to this matter in a public forum – I’m going to do it anyway. I’m pretty sick of hearing from those of you who have launched personal insults at those of us who paid a premium for a new Z06. There are a number of posts containing these comments (a recent one is above) throughout a number of different threads. I’m pretty sure that I don’t lack intelligence, values, priorities or common sense (which is implied by the above or directly stated in other posts). In fact, I’ve been fortunate and I attribute some of it to directly to these things.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, which actually is the basis for this forum but I don’t think that it is intended to be a place where others should be personally insulted. I can’t speak for other C6Z owners, but it’s bums me out every time I see one of these. Therefore, I’m asking you to stop.

It would be way more productive to congratulate all of those owners who are proud to have paid “only” sticker. I don’t think I’m off-base on this, but who knows – maybe I just wasted 10 minutes plus a few of yours. I’m still having a blast and am happy to share info with my fellow nutjobs on this forum.

You are not wrong in voicing your opinion. But at the same time the people that voice the stated opinions you don't like to hear are not wrong either. Majority of us believe that as consumers we have the power to dictate what sells and at what price but if there are people that will ignore this simple principle of economics and pay more for an item than it's worth, then not only are they screwing themselves but others too because those that are totally against over paying will have to follow suit if they want that item. And for this, by all means they will and should get flamed for it.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

As a matter of fact, the more I think about it, the more I disagree.

Can we make comments or have discussions about people paying over MSRP for a Z06...well certainly, and I for one, have never paid over MSRP for a car. However......

Do we really have the right to "flame" someone for buying a new Z06 just because they paid over MSRP? Who died and made us God?

If I really wanted a car badly, had the cash and the inclination and decided to purchase a car over MSRP, what in the world would make you think I'm accountable to you or anyone else for my purchase?
You may think I'm stupid for paying over MSRP for a car, but you'd have no call to 'flame' me!

I suspect we need to 'get over ourselves' just a bit

Mike

Maybe you should put on your flame suit if you are equating this philisophy to an economic principle. The value of a product is whatever people are willing to pay. Based on your theory Gold would be another (almost) worthless metal.

It's a free market and if you got it, you got it. It's nobodies business what you paid and nobody should be flaming anybody that has the bucks to do that. They must be doing something right to be able to afford it... At least they can enjoy a car that is hard to get: Supply and demand.

I understand both points of view. We all should be able to say what's on our mind without making anyone feel stupid or inferior.

<soapbox>

To each his own. If you have the money and the opportunity, go for it. I had both and the dealer still tried to jack up the price by $5K at the last moment (a day before I picked the car up). I ended up paying $1K over MSRP (thanks to my broker who fought tooth and nail to get them down). Anyone who wants to flame me for that can k__s my a_s. I waited 8 months for this car and I wasn't going to let $1K blow the whole deal by walking away from it. And yes, I do have the money and I paid for the car in full.

For anyone who doesn't even have a C6Z yet and is flaming
someone for paying MSRP, shame on you....opinion or not... that's just plain JEALOUSY that you don't have what someone else does have (and most cases, worked hard to get).

Nope, I have to disagree with you as well.

rpanesar had a reasonably valid point...he just took it to an extreme IMHO.
There is justification for people 'banding together' to keep dealerships and others from making outlandish profits on these cars by refusing to pay over MSRP. I understand that thinking totally and don't equate that, even a little bit, to JEALOUSY.
Many of us (self included) can afford to purchase a new C6 Z06, even at amount over MSRP if necessary, and therefore "jealousy" is not the issue.

My contention in the previous post was not that the premise was incorrect, but rather taking it to the level of 'flaming' or even thinking unkindly toward an individual who has paid over MSRP is totally wrong and misguided.
To equate the 'purpose' of rpanesar's post strickly to jealousy, is in itself rather naive.

I'm glad I don't have the money. I'd probably end up paying over msrp just to get the damn thing and never look back. Yea, I want one that bad.

My post earlier about flaming someone that pays over msrp may have not been the right way to put it. My stand on the issue is that people should not feed the frenzy of this over pricing strategy the dealers have adopted but to choose only to pay what is the rightful price fot this car. There is strength in numbers and if all of us decided we were not going to stand for this then for sure no one would dare charge more and none of us would have to think about paying more. As far as jealousy is concerned, it does not even come into play because if I wanted I could go out and buy one tomorrow but I won't becuase I am choosing not to feed the frenzy by paying a cent over msrp.

Naive? Gimme a break... for anyone to make any comment about what another person paid for a car is "in itself" naive. It's nobody else's business what someonebody paid for a car and if it was over MSRP, it's naive to think that it'll affect their price of the car when it comes time for them to buy one.

What ever happened to good old American "buy power" and ability for someone to "haggle" and get "the best deal"?

Sheesh... anyone who doesn't want to get robbed over MSRP, then walk into the dealer and sit down and work out a price. Your other two options are to hire a broker to get you the price you want, but that might not happen if there is a premium being added to all the C6Z *in your area*. You can always go out of city or state to buy.... or better yet, WAIT until they are at MSRP.

But by all means.. don't complain about it and flame anyone. Keep it to yourselves and bite your tongue.

Maybe I'll walk a few blocks into Almaden Valley and yell at someone for paying $2M for their house. I can afford the same, but I didn't buy one.
You get my point?
