Prep for garaging for winter

Here in Nebraska, after it snows the first time, I'm going to keep the Z under the cover. What are some things people recommend to do before/during the storage period.

In the past with cars I have stored over winter I have done a few things.

--Fuel stabilizer in the fuel system
--Each week turned the car on and let it run to operating temp (ran AC/Heater)

Some people recommend taking the weight off the wheels... what do you guys do when you store your car?

Re: Prep for garaging for winter

Owned 3 Z's and all I ever did was put a battery tender on them and started them up once a month or so. I move them back or forth in the driveway when I can. Never covered them, I think covers do as much damage as they prevent.

Re: Prep for garaging for winter

We have about 4 to 4/2 months of serious winter (20 to 25 feet of snow). I do what you and Joe did. Put fuel stabilizer and a battery tender on it. Taking the weight off tires and shocks is just silly. I would also cover the car, perhaps even stick something in the exhaust pipe to stop mouse infestation. One guy said once to leave the window open a bit. If you have mice in your area, bad idea.

I learned somenthing about long term non use of a vehicle today. When I am not using the Vette, I use a Mercury Mountaineer 4 to 4 1/2 months (5,000 miles) a year. It sits the other 7/12 to 8 months. I took it in today for the 15,000 mile checkup. The brakes were screwed up (pitted rotors, pads that weren't actuating). Next spring when I put that baby away, I will pull the tires, clean off the salt corrusion on the brakes and the rest of the bottom and spray WD-40 all over the brakes to prevent another $750 repair!!

Re: Prep for garaging for winter

Oil : Change

Fuel : Let tank get down to reserve fuel
add I bottle GM injector cleaner
Drive as long as you dare
Add Stabil...fill tank

Battery: Plug Battery Tender in on day 29 for one day

Day 30: Drive 20 miles if roads permit ... It will do both you and the car good

Cover: Just to keep from dinging anything whilst in the Garage..Working/Walking by,ect
bummer that you cannot see her with the cover on tho

I've been told it comes right after the end of huricane season, when I put my plywood shutters and 4x4 wood blocks away.

The exhaust won't have a problem with water being in it right? I ran it, but had some condensation come out... this exhaust won't rust will it? I can't remember what they said the material it was made out of
