If you have a known fob, you dont need to pay the dealer to program - it takes about 30 seconds to program.
Each keyless access transmitter is coded to allow only transmitters programmed to your vehicle, to work. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your GM dealer. Your GM dealer can reprogram your vehicle so lost or stolen transmitters no longer work with your vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of four transmitters matched to it.
To match a new transmitter to your vehicle when you have a recognized transmitter (two recognized transmitters are required for Canadian owners), do the following:
The vehicle must be off.
Have the recognized and new, unrecognized transmitters on your person.
Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle key into the key cylinder located above the license plate. See Hatch/Trunk for more information on the key cylinder.
Open the trunk.
Turn the key five times within five seconds.
The DIC will display READY FOR FOB #X, where X can be 2, 3 or 4.Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing towards the passenger's side.
Once the transmitter is programmed, a beep will sound. The DIC will display READY FOR #X, where X can be 3 or 4, or MAX # FOBS LEARNED.
Press the ACC button (ignition switch).
To hijack this thread....I learned something about the fob and these cars last saturday.
Ranger left the fob in his VRC6Z06 and closed the door after a run to let her cool down. The doors locked and nothing we could do would open her up. Ranger didn't have his extra fob, so Steve Row drove him 1 and a half hours back home to get his other fob.
I keep mine in my jacket or pants all the time now.

You guys just need to program the car not to auto lock and you should not have a problem.

My dealer charged me $60 for the fob and it took me more time to read how to program it than to do it. It is very easy. I now have an extra fob in my case.
